Amanda Furrer Wins Bronze in Two Events at the USA National Championships at Ft. Benning, Ga. – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Amanda Furrer finished third in both the women’s open and women’s junior rifle events at the USA National Championships held at Ft. Benning, Ga. She shot a 1,259.2 in the women’s 50m three position event with a 1,164 and 95.2 in the final. Sarah Beard of Texas Christian University won the event with a 1,263.9 score shooting 1,164 and 99.9 in the final.
Furrer, in the junior women’s 50m three position event, finished third with a 1,261.7 score. She shot a 1,164 and 97.7 in the final. Beard won the event with a 1,265.9 shooting 1,164 and 101.9 in the final.
The junior from Spokane, Wash. was a first-team All-American as a freshman. Last summer she helped the USA win the 50-meter, three-position women’s junior team competition at the 50th International Shooting Sports Federation World Championship in Munich, Germany. Furrer finished fifth in the 50-meter three-position women’s junior individual championship and was 12th in the English match (prone position at 50-meter outdoors).
During the past Ohio State season, she helped the Buckeyes win the Western Intercollegiate Rifle Conference Championship, winning both the smallbore and air rifle individual championships. Furrer has participated in the NCAA Championship the last two years finishing eighth in smallbore rifle in 2011 and seventh in 2010.
