COLUMBUS, Ohio – Jim Hughes, the State Senator from the Ohio’s 16th Senate District, presented the 2010-11 Ohio State men’s and women’s basketball teams with a copy of the resolution tendered in honor of the teams’ respective Big Ten Championships last season. The presentation took place Tuesday in the auxiliary gym of the Schottenstein Center.
The men’s team, led by head coach Thad Matta, ended its season in the East Regional semifinal and finished the year with a 34-3 overall record and the Big Ten regular-season (16-2) and tournament titles to its credit. The Buckeyes won their 13th outright (19th overall) Big Ten regular-season title and their third league tournament crown in six appearances.
The Buckeye women’s basketball team advanced to the NCAA Sweet 16 for the second time in three years after winning its record-tying third consecutive Big Ten tournament championship. With a 24-10 overall record, the Buckeyes recorded its ninth consecutive 20-win season under head coach Jim Foster, marking the 25th of Foster’s career.
Senator Hughes was elected to the State Senate in 2008 after five terms in the Ohio House of Representatives. Hughes’ leadership has earned him the post of Chairman of the newly-created Senate Financial Institutions Committee. He also is a member of the Energy and Public Utilities Committee, the Insurance, Commerce and Labor Committee and the State and Local Government and Veterans Affairs Committee for the 129th General Assembly.
