Athletes of the Week
TaylerHill led the women’s basketball team to two big wins last weekover Florida State and on the road at #18 Oklahoma. She averaged25.5 points per game, 4.5 rebounds, 4.0 steals, 3.0 assists and hitsix 3-pointers while playing 82 total minutes in two games. In theovertime win over LSU, Hill converted the tying basket at theregulation buzzer to send the game into overtime. She finished thegame with a career-high 31 points and also registered career bestsin FGs (11), 3FGs (4) and steals (6). In the win at Oklahoma Dec.4, Hill played all 40 minutes, scoring 20 points and dishing outfive assists. She was 8 of 9 from the FT line to help put the gameaway in the final minutes. Mariah Booth, a middle blocker from Kennesaw, Ga., combined for19 kills and 13 blocks last weekend and helped guide the Ohio Statewomen’s volleyball team to its second-consecutive Sweet Sixteenappearance at the 2011 NCAA Women’s Volleyball Championships. Inthe Buckeyes’ opening round win over Middle Tennessee State, Boothfinished with three block assists and 10 kills, hitting a team-best.474 at the net. In the 3-2 upset over 14th-seeded Tennessee, the6-2 junior totaled nine kills and led the team with 10 blocks (2s,8a). Up 13-12 in the fifth set, a block and kill by Boothsolidified the 15-12 victory and the match win. She finished theweekend hitting .341 at the net and also tallied three serviceaces.
No. 2 Men’s Basketball (8-0, 0-0 Big Ten)

JaredSullinger scored 21 points and three teammates were closebehind as No. 2 Ohio State roared out to an 11-0 lead and neverlooked back in beating third-ranked Duke 85-63 Nov. 29 in theACC/Big Ten Challenge.
Evan Ravenel scored a career-high 11 points in place ofSullinger and No. 2 Ohio State beat Texas Pan-American 64-35 Dec. 3to give coach Thad Matta his 300th career win.
No. 17 Women’s Basketball (7-0, 0-0 Big Ten)

Ohio State senior point guard Samantha Prahalis has been named the Big Ten player of the weekin recognition of her performance last week in wins over Howard,Stony Brook and LSU. Prahalis posted a pair of 20-point games,averaging 20.3 points, 8.7 assists and 6.0 rebounds while recordinga +6.5 assist/turnover ratio with 26 assists and just 4 turnoversin three games as Ohio State improved to 5-0.
Prahalis has been named to the 2011-12 Naismith Women’s watch list,the Atlanta Tipoff Club announced Nov. 30.
Tayler Hill had a career-high 31 points, including 20 afterhalftime and five in overtime, to lead No. 17 Ohio State to a 78-75win against Florida State Nov. 30 in the Big/Ten ACCChallenge.
Hill scored 20 points, Prahalis added 19 and Ohio State made itsfirst nine shots of the game in a 69-63 win over No. 18 OklahomaDec. 4 in the Big 12/Big Ten Challenge.

Ohio State freshman quarterback Braxton Miller has earned Big Ten Freshman of the Week honors,the conference office announced Nov. 28. The Huber Heights, Ohio,native posted career highs in total offense (335 yards),completions (14) and passing yards (235) in a 40-34 loss atMichigan Nov. 26. Miller ran for 100 yards with a touchdown on 16carries while completing 14 of 25 passes for 235 yards and twotouchdowns.
Ohio State Athletics Director GeneSmith announced Nov. 28 that he has named alumnus Urban Meyer head coach of the University’s football program.Meyer, who has the all-time 10th-highest winning percentage amonghead coaches, returns to the institution from which he earned hismaster’s degree and where he began his collegiate coachingcareer.
Ohio State junior defensive lineman John Simon was named to the 2011 All-Big Ten First Team Nov. 28by the coaches. Senior center Mike Brewster, senior linebackerAndrew Sweat and junior safety C.J. Barnett earned second team All-Big Ten honors by thecoaches while Simon and senior offensive tackle Mike Adams garnered second team laurels from the media. Sweatalso was named the Buckeyes’ Big Ten Sportsmanship Awardhonoree.
Miller, was named the Big Ten Conference’s Thompson-Randle ElFreshman of the Year Nov. 30. The award is named in honor ofDarrell Thompson, from the University of Minnesota, and IndianaUniversity’s Antwaan Randle El.
The Ohio State Buckeyes will meet the Florida Gators in the 2012TaxSlayer.com Gator Bowl. The game will kick off at 1 p.m. Monday,Jan. 2 in Jacksonville, Fla. The site is EverBank Field (77,511)and it will be televised nationally on ESPN2.

Ohio State held its annual Scarlet and Gray Intrasquad Dec. 4at Steelwood Athletic Training Facility. The Gray squad won257.200-255.400 against Scarlet with the Top 3 scores on each eventcounted in the final results.
No. 7 Men’s Ice Hockey (12-3-1, 9-2-1 CCHA)

No. 7-ranked Ohio State moved its winning streak to eight andunbeaten streak to 10 with a 5-2 victory over No. 11 Lake SuperiorState Dec. 2 in Value City Arena.
Buckeye sophomore Chris Crane’s third-period goal broke a 1-all tie and carriedNo. 7-ranked Ohio State to a 2-1 victory over No. 11 Lake SuperiorState Dec. 3 in Value City Arena.
Women’s Ice Hockey (9-5-2, 6-5-1-1 WCHA)

Ohio State senior forward Natalie Spooner was named WCHA Offensive Player of the Week,the league office announced Nov. 30. The honor is the second of theseason for Spooner and the eighth of her career.
With both teams only scoring in the first period, Ohio Stateconcluded game one of its series with Niagara in a 1-1 tie at theOSU Ice Rink Dec. 2.
Senior Laura McIntosh had four assists and five different Buckeyesscored to propel Ohio State to a 5-2 victory Dec. 3 in the finalgame of the two-game series with non-conference opponent Niagara atthe OSU Ice Rink.
