COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State women’s volleyball advanced to the Sweet Sixteen for the second-consecutive season after upsetting 14th-seed and host Tennessee, 3-2, Friday in Knoxville in the second round of the 2011 NCAA Division I Women’s Volleyball Championships. The Buckeyes are set to play in the Gainesville Regional and will open with a match against Big Ten rival and No. 3 seed Illinois Friday at 5 p.m. ET at the Stephen C. O’Connell Center on the campus of the University of Florida.

A package including admission to all sessions (three matches) can be purchased for $15 for a reserved seat, $12 for adult general admission, and $8 for a child, student or senior citizen.

OHIO STATE REGIONAL SEMIFINALS HISTORY
This year’s appearance marks the 13th time Ohio State has reached the regional semifinals and the second-consecutive season the Buckeyes have advanced to the Sweet Sixteen. The Buckeyes are 4-10 in regional play and have advanced to the national semifinals twice in team history (1991, 1994).
SIX BIG TEN TEAMS STILL ALIVE
A total of eight teams from the Big Ten were selected to this year’s national tournament and of the eight, six teams advanced to the Sweet Sixteen to lead all conferences. Joining Ohio State in the regional semis is No. 3 Illinois, No. 5 Purdue, No. 8 Penn State, No. 13 Minnesota and Michigan. The Pac-12 and Big 12 have three teams remaining in the tournament, while the SEC has two.
