COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State (5-1 overall) women’s volleyball team travels to Baltimore, Md., for its second of four consecutive road trips this month. The Buckeyes will play four matches in the UMBC Maddie Bingaman Memorial Tournament beginning with Brown (1-2) at 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 10. OSU then plays host UMBC (2-3) at 7 p.m. The second day of play includes a 1:30 p.m. match against Sacred Heart (3-3) and a 7 p.m. contest against Towson (9-0).

A LOOK AT OHIO STATE
The Buckeyes (5-1) won two of three matches last weekend at the Kentucky Classic. OSU defeated South Florida and Miami (Ohio), 3-0 and lost to 16th-ranked Kentucky, 3-1, in the championship match. For the season, Katie Dull is averaging a team-high 3.81 kills per set. Kelli Barhorst ranks second at 2.48 with Emily Danks at 2.43. Barhorst is hitting a team-high .343 with Danks at .298 and Anna Szerszen at .260. At setter, Betsy Hone is averaging 10.67 assists per set. In aces per set, Danks leads the team with a 1.19 per set average with 25. Sarah Mignin ranks second at .33 with seven and Szerszen at .29 with six. Defensively, Mignin is averaging a team-high 3.33 digs per set. Dull ranks second at 2.52 with Hone third at 1.67. At the net, Allie Schwarzwalder is averaging 1.25 blocks per set to lead the team with five solos and 10 assists. Mariah Booth ranks second at .93 with 13 assists with Barhorst third at .71 with five solos and 10 assists. Mignin is the team leader in serve reception percentage at .975 handling 156 of 160 attempts. Davionna DiSalvatore, at .946 (87 of 92), ranks second with Susan Halverson third at .929 (79 of 85).
Ohio State is averaging 13.71 kills per game while hitting .284. The Buckeyes average 12.10 assists and 2.43 aces per set. OSU is averaging 2.48 blocks and 11.90 digs per set and has a .948 serve reception percentage. Opponents are averaging 11.05 kills per set while hitting .161. They are averaging .95 aces, 1.21 blocks and 11.71 digs per game and have a .885 serve reception percentage.
A LOOK AT BROWN
The Bears are 1-2 on the season after opening at the UConn Toyota Classic. Brown lost 3-0 decisions to Southern Illinois and Connecticut and defeated Hartford, 3-0. Brown will host Providence on Wednesday. Katrina Post is the team leader in kills per set with a 2.78 average. Danielle Vaughan ranks second at 2.11 with Emma Pastore third at 1.56. Amanda Nickel leads the team in attack percentage at .312. Vaughan ranks second at .229 with Post third at .100. Setter Alexandra Rieckhoff is averaging 7.33 assists per set for the Bears. Carly Cotton has a team-high .56 aces per set with five. Rieckhoff ranks second at .44 with four. Defensively, Annika Gliottone leads the team with a 4.33 digs per set average. Post ranks second at 3.00. At the net, Kathryn Glickman is averaging a team-high 1.25 blocks per set the five assist blocks. Vaughan ranks second at 1.00 with nine assists.

A LOOK AT UMBC

Dianis Mercado has a 3.60 kills per set average to lead the team. Ashlyn Trimble ranks second at 2.55 with Maile Hetherington third at 2.32. Elise Sage is the top hitter on the team at .203. HONE NAMED TO THE KENTUCKY CLASSIC ALL-TOURNAMENT TEAM
Betsy Hone was named to the Kentucky Classic All-Tournament Team after posting 39 assists, seven kills (.700), a season-high 11 digs and two assist blocks against the Wildcats in the championship match. She recorded 34 assists, three kills (.400), two aces, four digs and three assist blocks against South Florida and 27 assists, five kills (.500), one ace, five digs and a solo block against Miami (Ohio). On the season, Hone is averaging 10.67 assists, 1.29 kills, .24 aces, 1.67 digs and .38 blocks per set.
DULL HAS 37 CONSECUTIVE MATCHES WITH DOUBLE-FIGURE KILLS
Katie Dull has recorded double-figure kills in all six matches this season and has a string of 37 consecutive matches. Named to the Kentucky Classic All-Fournament Team, she posted her third double-double of the season with 16 kills and 13 digs against Kentucky. She had 10 kills and five digs against South Florida and 12 kills, nine digs and two assists against Miami (Ohio). A starter in all six games, Dull is averaging 3.81 kills, .14 aces, 2.52 digs and .43 blocks per set.
DANKS REMAINS HOT AT THE SERVICE LINE
Emily Danks added 10 ace serves last weekend to give her 25 on the season. She recorded three aces, 10 kills, one dig and two total blocks (1-1) against South Florida and five aces, five kills, six digs and an assist blocks against Miami (Ohio). Against Kentucky, Danks had two aces, seven kills and three digs. A starter in all six matches, she is averaging 2.43 kills, 1.19 aces, .76 digs and .52 blocks per set.
MIGNIN REMAINS SOLID AT LIBERO
Libero Sarah Mignin continues to start at libero for the Buckeyes and is averaging a team-high 3.33 digs per set and has a .975 serve reception percentage handling 156 of 160 receptions. Against South Florida, she had seven digs and handled 23 serve receptions without an error. Mignin had 15 digs and handled 15 of 16 serve receptions in the Miami (Ohio) match. Against Kentucky, she had 11 digs and handled 35 serve reception attempts without an error.
BARHORST CONTRIBUTES OUT OF THE MIDDLE
Kelli Barhorst, in her six starts this season, is averaging 2.48 kills per set while hitting a team-high .343. She is averaging .71 blocks, .62 digs and .24 aces per set. Last week against South Florida, Barhorst recorded eight kills, five digs, three assist blocks and one ace serve. She had eight kills, two digs, a solo block and one ace serve against Miami (Ohio) and added nine kills, four digs and two total blocks (1-1) against Florida.
SZERSZEN HITS A SEASON-HIGH .615 AGAINST SOUTH FLORIDA
Anna Szerszen recorded eight kills in 13 attempts against South Florida to hit a season-high .615. She added two ace serves, three digs and three assist blocks in the match. Szerszen had five kills, one ace serve, one dig and two assist blocks in her start against Miami (Ohio) and started against Kentucky recording nine kills, one ace serve, one dig and one assist block. Szerszen has played in all six matches this season and has started in three of the last four. On the season, she is averaging 2.33 kills (.260), .29 aces, .76 digs and .62 blocks per set.
BOOTH HAS HER SECOND FOUR-BLOCK MATCH AGAINST SOUTH FLORIDA
Mariah Booth, for the second time this season, recorded four assist blocks against South Florida. She added three kills against the Bulls. Playing in two sets against South Florida, Booth recorded a kill and one assist block. She did not play against Miami (Ohio). Booth has played and started in five matches this season. She is averaging 1.00 kills and .93 blocks per set with 13 assist blocks.
SCHWARZWALDER GETS THE START AGAINST MIAMI (OHIO)
Allie Schwarzwalder started against Miami (Ohio) collecting five kills, four digs and three assist blocks. She saw limited action against South Florida and had three kills, three digs and one assist block at Kentucky. Schwarzwalder has played in all six matches this season and is averaging 1.00 kills, .67 digs and a team-high 1.25 blocks per set.
HALVERSON PROVIDES SUPPORT IN THE BACK ROW
Susan Halverson is contributing out of the back row as a defensive specialist. She has played in all six matches and has a .57 digs per set average and ranks third on the squad in serve reception percentage at .929 handling 79 of 85 attempts. Last week Halverson had four digs and handled seven of nine reception attempts against South Florida. She handled 13 reception attempts without an error against Miami (Ohio) and recorded her first kill of the season. Halverson had two digs and handled 22 of 23 reception assists in the Kentucky match.
DISALVATORE RANKS SECOND IN SERVE RECEPTION ON THE SQUAD
Davionna DiSalvatore, with a .946 serve reception percentage ranks second on the Buckeye squad. She has handled 87 of 92 attempts. DiSalvatore has a 1.14 digs per set average on the season playing in all six matches with three starts at defensive specialist. She posted three digs and handled 14 serve receptions without an error against South Florida. In the Miami (Ohio) match, she recorded four digs and handled 16 of 17 serve reception attempts. DiSalvatore had four digs and handled 16 of 17 serve reception attempts at Kentucky.
OHIO STATE RECEIVES VOTES IN THE AVCA POLL
In the American Volleyball Coaches Association Top 25 poll, Ohio State received 44 votes and is one slot out of the Top 25. Four Big Ten squads are ranked in the Top 25 with Penn State first, Illinois ranked third, Minnesota 12th and Michigan ranked 22nd.
BUCKEYES HAVE THREE BIG TEN NETWORK APPEARANCES
The Big Ten Network will have three Ohio State matches shown live this season. Buckeye home matches against Minnesota (Oct. 16, 6 p.m.) and Penn State (Oct 20, 7 p.m.) and OSU’s road match at Michigan (Nov. 6, 6 p.m.) are part of the conference broadcast schedule.
BIG TEN COACHES PICK OHIO STATE TO FINISH FOURTH
By a vote of the Big Ten coaches, Ohio State has been picked to finish fourth in the 2010 season. The Buckeyes finished tied for fourth last season. Six-time defending champion Penn State was picked to finish first, Illinois season and Minnesota third. Rounding out the top six is Michigan fifth and Michigan State sixth.
KATIE DULL IS NAMED TO THE 2010 PRESEASON ALL-BIG TEN TEAM
Senior outside hitter Katie Dull was a unanimous selection to the 2010 preseason All-Big Ten team by a vote of the Big Ten coaches. Joining Dull on the team is Johannah Bangert, Michelle Bartsch, Laura DeBruler and Hillary Haen of Illinois; Ashley Benson of Indiana; Alex Hunt and Lexi Zimmerman of Michigan; Kyndra Abron of Michigan State; Lauren Gibbemeyer, Tabitha Love and Hailey Cowles of Minnesota; Sabel Moffett of Northwestern and Blair Brown, Alyssa D’Errico and Arielle Wilson of Penn State.
HEAD COACH GEOFF CARLSTON
Geoff Carlston is in his third season at Ohio State. He directed the Buckeyes to a fourth place tie (12-8) in the Big Ten in 2009 and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Championship finishing with a 25-10 overall record.
Carlston came to Ohio State after spending five years as head coach of Ohio University where he built an outstanding program. His squads played in five NCAA tournaments, reaching regional play in 2005. At Ohio, Carlston guided the Bobcats to five-consecutive Mid American Conference championships with an overall record of 144-22. He had a MAC conference record of 78-2 and was 14-1 in the conference tournament, winning four of five.
Carlston was named the MAC Coach of the Year four times and was twice named the Mideast Region Coach of the Year.
He began collegiate coaching with three years at Concordia-St. Paul (Minn.) where he posted a 49-42 record. His career record is 235-95.

Season ticket prices are $52 for adults and $26 for youth (ages 7 to 18 with youth 6 and under free) for the 13 home matches. The season ticket price saves $1 per match off the single ticket price of $5 for adults and $3 for youth. The family pack season ticket, good for two adult and two youth season tickets is $150. Ohio State students get in free with their valid BuckID.
