TWO WINS, ONE WEEKEND! Our team was very successful this weekend with a 1-0 win over Dayton on Friday night and a 3-0 win over Akron on Sunday. We traveled to Dayton by bus Friday afternoon for our game at 6 p.m. We had a great warm up, and everyone had great energy. Dayton had a “red out” which brought a lot of fans out to watch, and created a great atmosphere for the game. Things like that really get us fired up and ready to play. We came out hard and played some great soccer in the first half, controlling most of the possession. We went into halftime 0-0, but we were confident that we were going to get a goal because we were very confident in the way we were playing.
Our goal came in the second half off of a corner kick. The ball bounced around a little in the box, but Cassie Dickerson, our center back, stepped up and put it in the back of the net for us! We defended hard to keep our lead and came out with the win. Lauren Beachy was voted player of the game for her intensity on defense. She made some great tackles for us at the end of the game.
We were fortunate enough to get Saturday off to let our bodies recover and to get ready for our game against Akron.
We played Akron on Sunday night at 6 p.m., which was new for us because we usually play at 1 on Sunday afternoons, but we still came out and took care of business. It was parent’s night, so all of our parents were able to walk out onto the field with us. It was a beautiful night and we were happy we were able to thank our parents for everything and let them know how much we appreciate them.
The game started out slow for us, we had many opportunities to find the back of the net but we were only able to get one goal before halftime. Liz Sullivan, our right outside back, received the ball outside of the eighteen and sent a great shot into the upper left hand corner of the goal for her second goal this season! We were more successful in the second half, getting two more goals to add to the scoreboard. Kristen Neiderhaus scored a great header off of a cross and Tiffany Cameron dribbled the ball into the box and placed the ball in the goal. Our defense got two shutouts this weekend and we won two games against two Ohio teams. Overall it was a great weekend, but we still have a lot to work on to get us ready for Cleveland State and to head out west to Arizona. That’s it from me, thanks for reading.
