COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State goalkeeper Rachel Middleman has been named Big Ten freshman of the week, the conference office announced Monday.
The Mars, Pa., native recorded 165 scoreless minutes in goal as the Buckeyes shut out intrastate rivals Dayton and Akron. Middleman made three saves in her first career shutout over Dayton Friday before coming back to record a save in 75 minutes of a 3-0 win over Akron Sunday. The freshman possesses a 0.46 goals-against average as the Buckeyes have started the season with a 4-1-1 record.
The award is the Buckeyes’ first freshman of the week honor and second weekly honor this season as Lauren Granberg was named offensive player of the week last week.
Ohio State returns to action for a 7:30 p.m. match against Cleveland State Wednesday at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium.
