No. 2 Men’s Basketball (12-0)
Head coach: Thad Matta
• David Lighty scored Ohio State’s first 16 points and finished with 29 points to lead the Buckeyes past UNC Asheville 96-49 Dec. 21.
• Deshaun Thomas scored 17 points and five teammates also hit double figures to lead Ohio State past Oakland 92-63 Dec. 23, giving coach Thad Matta his best start in his seven years with the Buckeyes.
No. 7 Men’s Swimming and Diving (5-0)
Head coach: Bill Wadley
• Senior Ben Savonen and two juniors – Andrew Elliott and Lincoln Fahrbach – have been named captains of Ohio State’s defending Big Ten Conference champion men’s swimming and diving team.
Men’s Volleyball
Head coach: Pete Hanson
• By a vote of the Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association coaches, Ohio State has been picked as the preseason favorite to win the conference title. The Buckeyes received 47 votes and six of the seven first place votes.
• Mik Berzins, Steven Kehoe, John Klanac and Shawn Sangrey have been named to the 10-player 2011 MIVA Preseason All-Conference team.
Women’s Volleyball (24-12)
Head coach: Geoff Carlston
• Ohio State was ranked 19th in the final American Volleyball Coaches Association Division I Coaches Top 25 Poll released Dec. 22. The Buckeyes upset 13th-seeded Dayton in the NCAA Championship second round. The win, at Dayton, advanced the Buckeyes to the Dayton Regional Semifinals where OSU lost to third-seeded Stanford.
