33 Student-Athletes Receive Degrees at Autumn Commencement – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Thirty-three current and former Ohio State student-athletes will receive their degrees at autumn commencement ceremonies today (Sunday) in the Schottenstein Center. The ceremony, set for 2 p.m., will be streamed live online at http://www.wosu.org/osu-commencement/.
Football players Devin Barclay, Bryant Browning, Chimdi Chekwa, Ross Homan, Chris Malone, Jake McQuaide, Grant Schwartz and Ryan Shuck will receive their degrees Sunday after winning four Big Ten championships, going to four BCS bowl games and never losing to Michigan.
Tessa Bonhomme was a defenseman for Ohio State from 2004-08. She won a gold medal at the 2010 Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver and has been on several Canadian National Women’s Teams, including throughout the last two years. Among her achievements, Bonhomme was the first Buckeye to be named an AHCA First Team All-America honoree as well as receive both the Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year awards from the Western Collegiate Hockey Association.
George Markovic won a Big Ten title in the 500 free last year and co-captained the Ohio State men’s swimming and diving team to its first Big Ten title in 54 years. George went on to earn first team All-America honors, led Ohio State to a ninth-place NCAA finish and will be heading back to Australia to train for the 2012 Olympics after graduation. He’s a finance major and would like to work on Wall Street someday.
Diver Wes Wieser is a two-time Big Ten champion a five-time NCAA All-American. He competed in his third NCAA championships in 2010 and he earned three All-America honors, finishing fifth on the 10-meter platform, 11th on the 1-meter and 14th on the three-meter. A computer science and engineering major, Wes is planning to attend graduate school, either at Ohio State or possibly Georgia Tech.
