Marc Lucas, OSUGC General Manager
by Brian Kelly, Head Golf Professional
We had one of our member’s (Harry Ihochi) go down while playing golf during the spring. Marc had to use the Automated External Defibrillator (AED) to revive him. Mr. Ihochi had stopped breathing and a pulse could not be found. Marc was very calm during the situation. He truly helped save a life that day. The paramedics had very high praise for the way in which the entire situation was handled. Mr. Ihochi is now back and playing golf at the club.
Bill Moffitt, Assistant Building Coordinator
by Julie Bonfini, Insurance Coordinator
Bill is always available to help anyone at anytime and always does so with a positive attitude and smile. He is asked to do so many things and take care of a building (WHAC) that is in use almost 24 hours, 7 days a week. He treats each individual with respect and receives little recognition for going the extra mile.
Bill is the heart and soul of our building, pumping energy into it every day. He rarely complains and helps keep us in the curious and up steps on the mood elevator.
I believe most individuals in our facility would agree with me if asked and we hope you will consider recognizing Bill for his efforts.
Andy DeVito, Lead Graphic Designer
by Amy Burgess, Assoc. Director FB Ops
Andy consistently exceeds expectations on graphic design work for the football program. His response time and follow-up is impeccable. Our requests can be numerous and time sensitive. Andy never complains or hesitates to help with these requests. He is a true team player. The designs are fantastic too!
Courtney Marsh, Asst. Director-Communications
by Dan Wallenberg, Assoc. AD-Communications
She recently took on additional responsibility of organizing our department social media efforts for individual sport pages. She also hosted a men’s golf tournament at Scioto CC. She earned the praise of Coach Darr for her efforts to the point that he is asking President Obama to station her husband Brad in Columbus so we can keep Courtney in town and on our staff.
Shelly Poe, Director-Communications
by Dan Wallenberg, Assoc. AD-Communications
Shelly went above and beyond recently to assist our media. After learning our football earned the No. 1 ranking, Shelly gathered quotes from several of our players and Coach Tressel and distributed those quotes to the media. That effort generated additional coverage and earned many compliments from our media friends. Well done.
Erin Sauter, Asst. Director-Fan Experience
by Kat Barnes, Asst. Merch. Mgr.
For generally being an awesome supporter of all things Buckeye, and for having AMAZING guest service skills at the Women’s Volleyball games that took place Friday, Oct. 1 and Saturday, Oct. 2. I also saw her briefly at the Mens’ and Women’s Soccer games on Sunday Oct. 3. Does this girl ever sleep Thanks for being so great Erin!
Robert Gary, Head Coach Men’s Track and Field
by Ed Beathea, Assistant Coach Men’s Track and Field
I nominate Coach Robert Gary in large part due to his uncompromising commitment to Ohio State University Athletics and the Men’s Cross Country and Track and Field Programs. Robert is constantly working on ways to improve the quality and experience of each student-athlete on our team as well as those that we are recruiting. Robert a former Olympian, Big Ten Champion for OSU, and NCAA All- American in the Steeplechase has instilled those same winning character traits in his staff and athletes.
There has been a clear positive change in the culture and attitudes of the student-athletes in his program. There has also been a positive change in the competitiveness of his teams during the championship season. In Coach Gary’s 2007-08 season, he led all 3 teams (Cross Country, Indoor and Outdoor) to top 3 finishes in their respective Big Ten Championships – something that had never been done in the history of the program. Coach Gary was inducted in the Ohio State Hall of Fame in 2009. He is a perfect reflection of someone who leads by example. A true Buckeye. I am proud to work with him.
All of the golf course maintenance staff
by Dennis Bowsher, Golf Course Superintendent
I would like to recognize all of the employees that work for me on the golf course maintenance staff for providing remarkable course conditions this year. This year exposed us to very difficult growing conditions due to extremes in weather. Starting with snow cover until mid-March, followed by above average temperatures in the spring, above average rain in June, and extremely hot temperatures with droughty conditions from July to the present, my staff kept working attentively to provide our varsity teams, members, and guests with first class conditions.
Many area golf courses had problems with dead grass on greens and other areas of the course while ours remained strong. Assistant Superintendents Dave Beattie and Dan Trubisky, along with Horticulturist Doug Knaup helped provide the leadership and guidance for the other 7 full time employees and the other 40 seasonal and part-time employees. Our operation is not unlike the other facility operations crews who work ridiculous hours to provide the behind the scenes success for events to be carried out successfully at all of our venues. Thanks to all of them for making the OSU Golf Club another place for our teams and fans to be proud of.
