Ohio State football: Keeping score
Columbus Dispatch – The crew in charge of Ohio Stadium’s scoreboard won’t be on the sidelines this Saturday.
They’ll be across the street in a darkened room in the basement of the Schottenstein Center, surrounded by computer monitors and control buttons connected to the ‘Shoe via underground fiber-optic cables.
The six or so people who make up the athletic department’s video services crew will watch the game through video cameras on the field, directing the cameramen and cuing up the appropriate computer animations from across Lane Avenue.
Video services intern Ken Hathaway calls it a “fun dance,” and it’s something the crew has been doing for awhile but few people know about.

The other five are Michigan (872), Texas (832), Notre Dame (831), Nebraska (827) and Penn State (801). Alabama enters the 2009 season with 799 wins.
commentary: Good luck getting anything out of Tressel
The Columbus Dispatch – Every year I go to Jim Tressel’s first weekly luncheon of the season looking for hints about how he thinks his Ohio State football team is going to do. I know he’s not going to tell us. He might tell his wife or his athletic director. he might even tell his doctor or his Nike representative, but he sure wouldn’t tell the blabbermouth news media.

Strong practice for offensive line relieves concerns before opener: Ohio State Insider
Cleveland Plain Dealer – Jim Tressel saw his offensive line — his set, healthy, first-team offensive line — in practice Monday night, and the Ohio State coach saw what he needed to. “In full pads, it wasn’t like it was shorts or anything, in full pads, our offensive line looked a little bit crisper and quicker and more confident in what they were doing than I had seen them in the last week or so,” Tressel said. Jim Cordle at right tackle, Bryant Browning at right guard and Mike Brewster at center had been set all camp, and with left guard Justin Boren back from a knee injury and Andrew Miller winning the battle with J.B. Shugarts and Mike Adams for the left tackle spot, that side is finally settled as well.
Pryor holds keys to OSU’s kingdom
Cincinnati Enquirer – A year ago, Terrelle Pryor came to campus as Ohio State’s most acclaimed quarterback recruit since Art Schlichter in 1979. Pryor watched Todd Boeckman, a first-team All-Big Ten quarterback who led the Buckeyes to the national championship game the season before, direct the offense for three games. But after the Buckeyes were throttled by Southern California 35-3, coach Jim Tressel stunned many by benching the fifth-year senior starter and replacing him with Pryor, who had yet to attend his first day of college classes.

OSU’s Kurt Coleman – A star off the field…and on
Dayton Daily News – It was a foggy Christmas Eve, though not the kind that could be helped by a red-nosed reindeer. Dan Lassiter – lying in Miami Valley Hospital’s intensive care unit last December, a Christmas tree decorated with Ohio State mementos next to him – was just making his way out of the mental haze that came from more than 21/2 months in a coma.
Fan feedback on the story from www.Facebook.com/Buckeyes

‘Nasty’ offensive lineman Justin Boren just eager to get back on the field with Ohio State football
Cleveland Plain Dealer Justin Boren can smile. And laugh. When he scowls, like in the Ohio State team headshot in which he appears ready to pummel his own tie, it’s not on purpose.”I don’t try to look mean,” Boren, the Buckeyes’ starting left guard, said.
Pryor sets pace — literally — for OSU
Newark Advocate – Humans who stand 6-foot-6 and close to 240 pounds aren’t supposed to be able to run 40 yards in 4.33 seconds. Then again, Donna Silvis never has known Ohio State quarterback Terrelle Pryor to be human when it comes to sheer athleticism. So excuse her if she wasn’t as floored as OSU coach Jim Tressel by Pryor’s fab 40 in a summer conditioning drill.
Early games aren’t gimmes
The Columbus Dispatch – Michigan coach Rich Rodriguez recently floated the idea of playing a preseason game in college football, but in reality, that system already exists. Most powerhouse teams schedule a fatted calf for their opening game — or two or three.
Former Ohio State and NFL star Cris Carter says St. Thomas Aquinas High School program is what produces great players
Cleveland Plain Dealer – Cris Carter can barely ex plain it, so maybe the 52-7 victory by St. Thomas Aquinas of Florida over Upper Arlington on Saturday did it for him.
The Most Compelling Buckeye
Dayton Daily News – A senior safety and a captain of the Ohio State football team, the Northmont High product reads opposing quarterbacks’ eyes and intentions so well that he’s one of just 31 players in the nation on the preseason watch list for the Jim Thorpe Award, which goes to the best defensive back in college football.

Senior captains ready to lead the Buckeyes, starting with defense
OSU Lantern – If there were one message the new Ohio State captains wanted to express on Tuesday, it was that every member of the Buckeye squad was prepared and ready to do their part. “The coaches are really stressing the importance of doing your job, doing your 1/11th,” said Austin Spitler, senior linebacker and 2009 co-captain.
