• Lindsay Quintiliani, senior goalkeeper on the field hockey team, earned her second-consecutive Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week honor Sept. 21 after making a total of 10 saves last week, posting two shutouts and allowing just two goals in 210 minutes. The Mountain Top, Pa., native now has 12 career shutouts to rank third in the Ohio State all-time record book, trailing only Kim Willis (12.5; 1985-87) and Sue Willson who owns the record with 15.
In the win vs. Central Michigan Sept. 20, Quintiliani survived 10 minutes of man-down play, including two minutes of Ohio State playing down two players, to ensure her third shutout of the season. The graduate of Crestwood High School owns 33 career wins and needs just four more to take over the No. 1 spot. Lindsay Williams (2002-05) has the most careers wins with 36.
• After breaking the women’s soccer career shutout record Sept. 18 and following that up with another clean sheet Sept. 20, senior goalkeeper Lauren Robertson was named Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week for the second time this season.
The Mission Viejo, Calif. native broke Amber Barnes’ record against North Texas on Friday night and made a pair of big saves against Toledo on Sunday to notch her 24th career shutout. Robertson leads the Big Ten with seven shutouts this season including one in each of the Buckeyes’ last three contests.

Athletics
• The NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Committee notified Ohio State it will host the first and second rounds of the 2012 NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament at Nationwide Arena in downtown Columbus. Ohio State will serve as the host institution. The Buckeyes are not eligible to play in Columbus should they qualify for the NCAA tournament that year.
Baseball
Head coach: Bob Todd
• The schedule for the second BIG EAST/Big Ten Challenge is set with Ohio State playing South Florida, Notre Dame and Cincinnati in the 20-team, 30-game event that will be held in the St. Petersburg and Clearwater, Fla., area in February.
Men’s Cross Country
Head coach: Robert Gary
• Ohio State started its 2009 campaign with a bang Sept. 18, placing six runners in the Top 10 en route to an easy victory at the Mountaineer Open. Jeff See led the way for the Buckeyes on the 6.4k course, crossing the finish line in 19:54.27. Sophomore Taylor Williams was fourth (20:06.81) and freshman Julian Meyer placed fifth in 20:07.86.

• Sarah Foster ran a time of 17:24, claiming first-place at the 5k Cedarville Friendship Invitational Sept. 19. The Buckeyes did not enter as a team.

No. 20 Field Hockey (5-3)

• The Buckeye defense killed off 10 minutes of penalty time, playing two down for nearly two minutes, as Ohio State held on to its 1-0 halftime lead to defeat Central Michigan Sept. 20 at North Turf Field. Sophomore back Jenn Sciulli deflected a Maria Briones’ flick past Chippewa goalkeeper Melinda Curran for her first goal of 2009.
• On two goals by freshman Berta Queralt and one by sophomore Aisling Coyle, Ohio State downed Vermont, 3-0, Sept. 18 at North Turf Field. Senior goalkeeper Lindsay Quintiliani and now has 11 career shutouts to hold third in the all-time program record book. Quintiliani moves ahead of Allison Blanton (10.5; 1998-01) and now trails Kim Willis (12.5; 1985- 87) and Sue Willson (1989-92) who owns the record with 15.
• Ohio State defeated its second-consecutive in-state rival with a 5-2 win over Kent State Sept. 16 in Kent, Ohio. Junior forward Jena Cacciatore and freshman Queralt led the Ohio State offense with two goals each. Queralt also had an assist for a game-high five points.
• The Buckeyes had two student-athletes named Big Ten Players of the Week Sept. 21 after going 3-0 last week with Quintiliani earning the defensive honor and Queralt earning rookie of the week. • Ohio State began its fall season Sept. 21 with 36 holes at the 16th-annual Adams Cup of Newport/Cleveland Golf Classic in Newport, R.I. The Buckeyes are in fourth place at 12-over 588 and just five strokes back from leader New Mexico. The Buckeyes are led by junior Bo Hoag in a tie for 12th.
No. 10 Women’s Golf
Head coach: Therese Hession
• Ohio State recorded a final round of 2-under 286 to tie for the low round of the day and conclude the Golfweek Conference Challenge Tuesday in fourth with a 54-hole total of 884 (+20). Leading Ohio State was the duo of In Hong Lim and Allie White who tied for sixth at 219 (+3).

• Tickets are now on sale for the 2009 “Thumbs Up” event, which features Ohio State taking on Johns Hopkins. The teams will face off in the fall-ball scrimmage at 7 p.m. Oct. 9 at Upper Arlington High School in Columbus. Tickets are $5 each, with children 6 and under free, and all seating is general admission.

• Ohio State played SIU Edwardsville to a scoreless tie through two overtime periods Sept. 20 at a rain-soaked Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium.
• Chris Hegngi and Joshua Breto teamed up to lead Ohio State to a 2-1 win over Butler Sept. 18 at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium. Hegngi tallied both goals off assists from Breto.

• The Buckeyes earned their third-consecutive shutout, downing Toledo 2-0 Sept. 20 at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium. Courtney Jenkins and Karin Sendel scored for Ohio State.
• Senior goalkeeper Lauren Robertson broke Amber Barnes’ career shutout record with 23 as the Buckeyes topped North Texas, 2-0, Sept. 18 at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium. Colleen Brady and Courtney Jenkins scored for Ohio State.
• The Big Ten Conference named Robertson the Defensive Player of the Week Sept. 21 for her double-shutout weekend.

Women’s Volleyball (12-1)

• Ohio State won its Sports Imports Classic with wins over Bowling Green (3-0), Cleveland State (3-1) and Xavier (3-0). Chelsea Noble and Emily Danks were named to the All-Tournament team with Amanda Peterson honored as the Most Valuable Player.
• Against Bowling Green, Katie Dull had 14.5 points, Emily Danks 11.5 and Peterson 11 in the 25-19, 25-20, 25-13 win. Kristen Dozier had 17 points, Danks 16.5, Dull 15.0 and Peterson 12 in the 24-26, 25-20, 25-11, 25-15 win over Cleveland State. The Buckeyes won the championship with a 27-25, 25-18, 25-6 victory over Xavier as Dull produced 17.5 points and Dozier added 10.
• For her performance, Danks was named Co-Big Ten Freshman of the Week. She earned all-tournament honors at the Sports Imports Classic by hitting .592 and averaging 3.10 kills and 3.60 points per set.
