Student-Athletes of the Week
• Emily Danks, a freshman on the women’s volleyball team, had career-highs of 18 points and 16 kills to help OSU to a 3-2 victory at Marquette Sunday. She had double-figure points in all three matches recording 10 against Western Michigan and 11.5 at UW-Milwaukee. On the weekend, she posted 11 assist blocks, three ace serves and seven digs.
• Paige Maxwell, a sophomore on the women’s soccer team, notched her second career hat trick as the Buckeyes posted a 6-0 win over Youngstown State last Friday. Her three goals ties for the most in a single game and is just the eighth hat trick in Ohio State history. Maxwell’s first three goal output came in a 3-2 win over Iowa Oct. 17 last year.

Baseball
Head coach: Bob Todd
• Ohio State head baseball coach Bob Todd announced the signing of four student-athletes to national letters of intent Sept. 11. The four, all of them freshmen, are RHP Cole Brown, outfielder Hunter Mayfield, RHP Brett McKinney and catcher Steel Russell.
No. 19 Field Hockey (2-3)
Head coach: Anne Wilkinson
• After dropping two-consecutive overtime contests, Ohio State bounced back in a big way with a 3-0 shutout of Ohio University Sept. 11 at North Turf Field. Junior Jena Cacciatore scored twice for the Buckeyes and freshman Berta Queralt had one. Senior goalkeeper Lindsay Quintiliani made two saves in her first shutout of 2009. She now has 10-career shutouts to tie Lindsay Williams (2002-05) for fourth in the OSU all-time record book.

• Ohio State fell, 18-15, to No. 3/3 Southern California Sept. 12 in front of a record crowd of 106,033 at Ohio Stadium. Wide receiver DeVier Posey had career highs with 81 receiving yards on six catches, including a career-long 34-yard reception in the first half. Running back Dan Herron has rushed for at least one touchdown in six-consecutive games. He finished the game with 44 yards on 18 carries and one touchdown.
• Aaron Pettrey was named a Lou Groza “Stars of the Week” for converting a fourth quarter 52-yard field goal vs. Navy Sept. 5. It was his fifth career field goal of more than 50 yards. Pettry, a former walk on and also a Groza watch list selection connected earlier on kicks of 23 and 25 yards.

Women’s Golf
Head coach: Therese Hession
• Ohio State received a 16th ranking in the Golfweek preseason poll released Sept. 8. Along with the team poll, sophomore Allie White was selected to the ‘Second Team’ in the preseason individual rankings.
• The Buckeyes opened their fall season at the Golfweek Conference Challenge Sept. 13. White, a sophomore transfer competing in her first tournament for OSU, led the team with a round of 1-over on the par 72 Primm Valley Desert Course and the Buckeyes were tied for third after the opening 18 holes. The three-day, 54-hole event continues through Sept. 15 in Las Vegas.
Women’s Hockey

• Three Ohio State student-athletes were named to the 2009 WCHA All-Star Team, the Western Collegiate Hockey Association announced Sept. 9. Sophomore forwards Laura McIntosh and Natalie Spooner and junior defenseman Shannon Reilly will skate with 19 other top players from the conference when they face the 2009-10 U.S. Women’s National Team, 7 p.m. Sept. 25 at the Xcel Energy Center, home of the NHL’s Minnesota Wild, in St. Paul, Minn.
Men’s Lacrosse
Head coach: Nick Myers
• Two-time Buckeye All-American Joel Dalgarno was the seventh overall pick in the 2009 National Lacrosse League draft, going to the Toronto Rock in the first round Sept. 9. The native of Port Coquitlam, British Columbia, completed his Buckeye career in May as the team’s all-time leading goal scorer and second all-time in points.
• Sophomore Brock Sorensen is one of 55 athletes invited to the Team Canada Selection Camp, the organization announced. The tryouts will be Oct. 9-12 at St. Michael’s College School in Toronto, Ontario. Following the four-day camp the team will be chosen to represent Canada at the Federation of International Lacrosse World Championship in Manchester, England, July 14-24, 2010.
Men’s Soccer (2-0-2)
Head coach: John Bluem
• Ohio State split its action this weekend, tying Hartford, 1-1, Sept. 11 and defeating Hofstra, 4-2, Sept. 13 in the Penn State Classic in University Park, Pa. The Buckeyes finished second in the tourney behind the host Nittany Lions.
• Against Hofstra, Doug Verhoff led the team with two goals, while Austin McAnena and Andrew Magill each added one. Sam Scales finished the day with two assists. The four goals stand as the most for Ohio State since Sept. 14, 2008 and a 4-1 win over Furman.
• Chris Hegngi scored the lone goal for the Buckeyes vs. Hartford, marking the first tally of the year against the Hawks. Ryan Dalton played all 110 minutes in goal, allowing the one and making a career-high 10 saves.
• Verhoff, Magill and McAnena each earned a spot on the Penn State Classic All-Tournament team for their efforts.

• Ohio State had its largest scoring output in almost five years as it knocked off Youngstown State, 6-0, Sept. 11 at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium. Sophomore Paige Maxwell led the squad with school-record tying three goals while Lauren Granberg had two and Kendyl Reed one.
• Earlier in the week, the Buckeyes came back from two separate deficits to edge UNLV in overtime, 3-2, Sept. 9 in Las Vegas. With exactly a minute left in the first overtime, freshman Tiffany Cameron beat UNLV’s goalkeeper for the game winner.

Men’s Tennis

• Members of the 2009 national runners-up Ohio State men’s tennis team were among tennis’ top collegiate players in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association preseason singles and doubles rankings with senior Justin Kronauge holding the highest ranking at No. 13 in singles. The Buckeyes are the only team in the nation to have five players ranked in the singles poll, while four doubles pairs are listed in the doubles standings.
• Sophomore Chase Buchanan was the 2009 U.S. Open Boys Junior Tournament runner-up after making his singles main draw debut in the Grand Slam two weeks ago.
Women’s Volleyball (9-1)
Head coach: Geoff Carlson
• At 9-1, the women’s volleyball is off to their best start since 2006 when they opened the season, 10-0. The Buckeyes went 2-0 at the UW-Milwaukee Panther Invitational finishing undefeated as did Marquette at 3-0 with Katie Dull and Kristen Dozier being named to the all-tournament team.
• OSU defeated Western Michigan in the Invitational, 3-2 (25-18, 25-19, 23-25, 16-25, 15-11) behind career-highs of 30 points and 25 kills from Dull. Dozier added 18.5 points with 15 kill and seven assist blocks.
• The Buckeyes defeated UW-Milwaukee, 3-0 (25-20, 25-17, 25-19) with five players recording double-figure points, including a match-high 12 from Dull.
• Ohio State closed out the three-week, 10-match road swing with a 3-2 (25-22, 16-25, 25-19, 21-25, 15-12) at Marquette. Dull posted a match-high 24 points, while Emily Danks recorded career-highs of 18 points and 16 kills.

• Lou Rosselli, associate head coach of the Ohio State wrestling team, will depart for Herning, Denmark, Sept. 12 for the 2009 FILA Senior World Championships. Rosselli coached Edinboro graduate Shaun Bunch to a spot on the Senior National Freestyle Team (60 kg, 132 pounds).
