On this Independence Day 2009, several Buckeyes are in the midst of representing the United States in international competition
Football: Buckeyes Storm Klein and Jack Mewhort play for the Junior World Championships gold medal with Team USA vs. Canada at 1 p.m. Sunday in Canton, Ohio (Watch live). The U.S. defeated France, 78-0, last Saturday and topped Mexico, 55-0, Wednesday.
Men’s Basketball: Evan Turner was in the starting lineup and had three steals in a 87-40 World University Games preliminary round win over Finland in Belgrade, Serbia Friday. The United States closes out preliminary play against South Korea (0-1) Saturday (2 p.m. EDT). Second-round action is scheduled for July 6-7.
Women’s Basketball: Jantel Lavender led Team USA with 17 points in a 93-59 win over Great Britain Thursday as the Americans improved to 2-0 on World University Games play in Belgrade, Serbia. The U.S. scored an 84-50 win over Serbia Friday and will start second round action July 5.
Women’s Lacrosse: Former Buckeye Regina Oliver was named to the All-World team as she helped Team USA claim the gold medal in the World Cup in June.
