Chicago Tribune December 4, 2009 – MADISON, Wis. — Wisconsin fans dressed head-to-toe in red stormed the Kohl Center court. Ohio State’s student section chanted “Big Ten!” Illinois players gathered for a five-man celebration, almost as in shock with themselves as was the stunned Clemson crowd. While most coaches downplayed the significance of the Big Ten — finally, finally, finally! — beating the ACC in their annual conference challenge, one player certainly didn’t shy away from answering. “That’s the championship right there,” Ohio State’s Evan Turner, a Chicago native, said to reporters after the Buckeyes’ 77-64 defeat of Florida State on Wednesday night. “So that was huge.” And historic. The Big Ten never had beaten the ACC in 10 previous tries. With a 73-69 upset against No. 6 Duke, Wisconsin set up the Buckeyes to win the final game of the Big Ten/ACC Challenge to provide the Big Ten a 6-5 edge.
