COLUMBUS, Ohio – Pacific 10 Conference member Oregon State, an at-large invite into the 2009 NCAA tournament after a sixth-place finish in the Pac 10, advances to the quarter finals of the 2009 NCAA soccer championship with a 1-0 overtime win over No. 3 seed Florida Sunday at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium.
Melinda Ingalls finished off a through ball from 16 yards in the 99th minute for the only score of the game. Oregon State, now 14-7-1 on the season, advances to the quarterfinal round to take on Notre Dame. The Gators end their season with a 16-6-2 record.
Rachael Axon assisted on the winning goal.
Oregon State had six first-half shots to none for Florida, but it was an evenly played first half with the ball in each team’s zone about half the time. Florida keeper Katie Fraine made four saves, none of them difficult, though. Both teams had two corner kicks.
The second half was a similar evenly played half with each team taking turns holding the momentum, getting some shots on goal (Florida led, 5-4) and making things difficult for the defensive side of things…only at times, though with no sustained attacking taking place. In the OT, Oregon State had two shots and the Gators did not have any.
