Ohio State Hosts Women’s Soccer First and Second Rounds – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State women’s soccer team has been selected to host the first and second rounds of the NCAA tournament, the NCAA announced Monday evening. The Buckeyes open with Oregon State Friday at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium.
“We’re thrilled to be home playing in the Jesse but we’re in a very competitive bracket representing four completely different styles,” head coach Lori Walker said. “I’d rather be at home than the top seed but it only matters where we are at on Sunday.”
Florida and Illinois State will matchup in the other game evening. First round winners play Sunday afternoon.
Oregon State posted a 12-7-1 mark, 4-5-0 in Pac-10 play. The Beavers finished the regular season ranked sixth in the NSCAA/adidas West region rankings.
Ohio State posted a 14-3-2 record in the regular season, finishing second in the Big Ten with a 7-2-1 mark. It was the best regular season record in program history and the seven wins in conference play also mark the most ever by an Ohio State team.
In 17 seasons of women’s soccer, 2009 marks the fifth time the Buckeyes have reached the NCAA tournament and first since 2007. The Buckeyes are 4-4 all-time in NCAA play, all under the direction Lori Walker.
The Big Ten finished with five teams in the tournament. Joining the Buckeyes are Penn State, Wisconsin, Purdue and Michigan State.
