Hello again!
It was another great day in Columbus, Ohio yesterday because we won, ending Purdue’s winning streak and giving our seniors their first win against them! In fact we have not beaten them in seven games.
Our theme for the day was “It ends today”. We were ready! As we began our warm-up, we were focused, our energy was high and we were prepared for this very important game. Everyone wanted this win.
The streak did “end today” but it didn’t start today. We’ve been building towards this all year. We put the last win behind us (Illinois) and concentrated on this next step.
We had a strong (and fun) practice Friday evening involving a lot of shooting. Saturday we watched our football team beat Minnesota and relaxed. We had our normal game day schedule starting with our favorite game day breakfast.
As I mentioned above, we had a great warm up. The game began and we were playing with high intensity. Everyone was making good runs off the ball, competing for balls in the air and working hard to maintain possession. We were moving the ball around and could tell that they were getting tired so we kept fighting. We were creating a lot of corners and came close to scoring throughout the first and second half but the game remained scoreless through the first 90 minutes. Now it was time for overtime.
During our huddle, before overtime began, we were all really excited and determined to win. We had dug deep down and fought with all our hearts throughout the entire game. There was no way that we were giving up now. Right off the bat we were pressing and working hard to get a shot on goal. We ended up with another corner and an opportunity. This was our chance! Lauren Steuer stepped up to take the corner and played a perfect ball toward the back post. Colleen Brady got above the ball and headed it down towards the goal and scored, winning the game for us! The whole bench stormed the field and we all were so excited. This was a huge win for us.
Now we are back to going to class and making sure we are caught up after three away games in a row. We have a full week of practice in order to get ready for our game next Sunday against Indiana (Senior Day). We look forward to seeing you there to help us honor our seniors and watch us play our last regular season home game of the year. Go Buckeyes!
