COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State junior linebacker Ross Homan was honored as the Big Ten conference defensive player of the week for his outstanding performance in the 31-13 win over Wisconsin Saturday at Ohio Stadium.
Homan recorded a career-high 15 tackles (nine solo) in the victory. He had two sacks of Wisconsin quarterback Scott Tolzien for a loss of 13 yards and also forced a Badger fumble.
“This is a great privilege and honor,” said Homan. “I believe it recognizes the efforts of my teammates and coaches. The defensive player of the week might be given to a linebacker, but it goes equally to all our defensive linemen and secondary.”
Iowa tight end Tony Moeaki was selected as offensive player of the week, while Michigan punter Zoltan Mesko was the special teams player of the week.
Homan is the first Buckeye to earn player of the week recognition this season. The league-leading Buckeyes (5-1/3-0), ranked No. 7 nationally, play at conference foe Purdue Saturday at noon in a game that will be televised by the Big Ten Network.
