Individualized Scheduling & Tutoring
Individualized scheduling, tutoring and mentoring play a major role in the planning and support of a Success Team member. Success Team members can meet with tutors and mentors, daily and weekly. Success Team members also will meet with a Learning Specialist almost daily.
The following identifies what a Success Team member’s weekly schedule may look like during a quarter. The schedule is prepared by the Learning Specialist and is shared with the student-athlete’s Academic Counselor. The schedule may also be shared with the student-athlete’s coach.
Example of an individualized schedule
Individualized Success Team Tutoring
Individualized tutoring is scheduled into a Success Team member’s daily and weekly schedule. Student-athletes are expected to treat their individualized tutoring sessions as mandatory sessions that they must attend. If a student-athlete misses a schedule tutor session, the Learning Specialist will let the Academic Counselor know of the miss. The Academic Counselor will then communicate to the coach that the student-athlete missed a scheduled tutoring session.
The following chart represents the number of tutoring hours per week that take place per subject for individuals that were on the Success Team during Autumn 2007. As you can see the total number of hours is 550 with the majority of those hours being spent in math courses.
Collaboration with the Office for Disability Services (ODS) and SASSO
Additionally, SASSO Learning Specialists work closely with Ohio State’s Office for Disability Services to ensure the needs of a student-athlete on the Success Team are sufficiently identified and managed.
