| 06/18/2008 – Buckeyes Battle Cancer In 2008, the Ohio State student-athletes stepped outside of their usual concerns of school work, practice and competition to fight a bigger battle – a battle against cancer. Between the football, women’s hockey and men’s lacrosse teams, the winter and spring seasons were sprinkled with various events all with one central theme – raising awareness and donations for various types of cancer. |
| 05/09/2008 – Buckeyes Give Back The Ohio State Department of Athletics and its student-athletes, coaches and staff all will take part in four community events May 11-17. The week gets off to a running start, literally, Sunday with the Second and Seven Foundation Mother’s Day 5K, hosted by Ohio State Student-Athlete Advisory Board. The route begins at 10 a.m. at the Ohio State College of Veterinary Medicine and ends at Ohio Stadium. |
| 05/01/2008 – Buckeyes Got Talent Buckeyes Got Talent is back. After its successful first run in 2007, the Ohio State student-athlete talent show is back for its second edition. Buckeyes Got Talent, which is organized by the Ohio State Student-Athlete Advisory Board (SAAB), takes place at 7 p.m. May 14 in St. John Arena. Doors open at 6 p.m. for an autograph session with the Buckeye student-athletes that will last until 6:45 p.m., allowing the contestants time to prepare for the main event. |
| 04/28/2008 – Ohio State Student-Athlete Advisory Board Organizes Mother’s Day 5K In one of its two spring charitable initiatives, the Ohio State Student-Athlete Advisory Board (SAAB) will host the inaugural 2nd & 7 Foundation Mother’s Day 5K May 11 on The Ohio State University campus. Registration and packet pick-up for the race opens at 8:30 a.m. across from the College of Veterinary Medicine located a 1900 Coffey Rd. with the 5K run/walk beginning at 10 a.m. |
| 01/14/2008 – Ohio State Student-Athletes Promote Education and Athletics at French Immersion School On a visit to Ecole Kenwood Elementary in late November, senior Kyle Hood, sophomore Nick Filion and freshman Corey Toy of the men’s hockey team discovered something rather unique. The school, less than five miles from Ohio State’s main campus, is the state’s only French immersion school, offering a curriculum balanced between learning in French and English. |
| 10/04/2007 – Ohio State Student-Athletes Read to Second Graders with 2nd & 7 Foundation Ohio State student-athletes Cameron Russell and Anita Black of the women’s swimming team and senior gymnast Jimmy Wickham read to a class of 26 second graders at Hubbard Elementary Oct. 4. In addition, Jake Bateman and Pejman Ebrahimi, also gymnasts, read to students at Beatty Park Elementary Oct. 12. Partnering with the 2nd and 7 Foundation, a program founded by former OSU football players Ryan Miller, Luke Fickell and Mike Vrabel, current Ohio State student-athletes are volunteering their time away from classes and practice to encourage Columbus’ youth to read. |
