Week of community activities begins Sunday with Mother’s Day 5K, ends May 17 with wrestling team Autism function
The Ohio State Department of Athletics and its student-athletes, coaches and staff all will take part in four community events May 11-17.
The week gets off to a running start, literally, Sunday with the Second and Seven Foundation Mother’s Day 5K, hosted by Ohio State Student-Athlete Advisory Board. The route begins at 10 a.m. at the Ohio State College of Veterinary Medicine and ends at Ohio Stadium.
Tuesday is the fourth-annual Columbus City Schools Baseball Day. More than 2,600 sixth-grade students will attend the event that stresses education and staying in school. After a morning session at the Jerome Schottenstein Center, featuring Archie Griffin as a guest speaker, the students will enjoy a baseball game between Ohio State and Buffalo.
Wednesday, Ohio State student-athletes will display their hidden skills in the second edition of the “Buckeyes Got Talent” show at St. John Arena. Performances from the first talent show became internet hits, topping 400,000 viewings online. Ticket proceeds from the event go to the Columbus Boys & Girls Club. Griffin and fellow former Buckeye football player Kirk Herbstreit will serve as two of the judges.
The week comes to a close Saturday with Wrestling Against Autism, hosted by the Ohio State wrestling team and the Mad River Wrestling Officials Association. Admission fees for the day-long tournament in French Field House will benefit Autism research and support.
SUNDAY, MAY 11 – Second and Seven Foundation Mother’s Day 5K, hosted by Ohio State Student-Athlete Advisory Board
Registration begins at 8:30 a.m.
Buckeye alum Mike Vrabel will kick off the event at 10 a.m.
Route begins at the College of Veterinary Medicine and ends at Ohio Stadium
Ohio State student-athletes and coaches will host a Meet and Greet session from 10:25 a.m. until noon at the stadium
TUESDAY, MAY 13 – Columbus City Schools Baseball Day, hosted by the Ohio State Athletics Department, Columbus City Schools and Children’s Hunger Alliance
Educational pep rally begins at 10 a.m. at the Schottenstein Center, followed by the baseball game between Ohio State and Buffalo at 12:05 p.m. at Bill Davis Stadium
Over 2,600 sixth graders from Columbus City Schools will attend the event

WEDNESDAY, MAY 14 – “Buckeyes Got Talent” Student-Athlete Talent Show, hosted by the Ohio State Athletics Department to benefit the Columbus Boys & Girls Club
Show begins at 7 p.m. in St. John Arena. Tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for students with all proceeds going to the Columbus Boys & Girls Club
Guest judges include Kirk Herbstreit, Archie Griffin, WNBS Ch. 10’s Angela An, NBC 4’s Mindy Drayer, Brutus Buckeye and a member of the Boys & Girls Club
SATURDAY, MAY 17 – Wrestling Against Autism, hosted by the Ohio State wrestling team and the Mad River Wrestling Officials Association

Silent auction featuring sports memorabilia during the event
Through May 16 – Operation Feed sponsored by Mid-Ohio FoodBank:
The Ohio State University, along with the department of athletics, currently is taking part in Operation Feed 2008. The annual community-wide food drive to help feed homeless and low-income residents in central Ohio is held on campus.
Operation Feed is sponsored by the Mid-Ohio FoodBank and helps collect critically needed, non-perishable food for distribution to 228 food pantries and soup kitchens throughout central Ohio. All food and money donated is used to provide nutritious meals for children, senior citizens and families who need assistance during the year.
Food collection boxes currently are located in the following athletics department facilities through Friday, May 16th. Posters located with each box indicate priority items that are in need for this year’s drive.
