Men’s lacrosse senior goalie Stefan Schroder fired in the Buckeyes’ first goal en route to the 15-7 victory over host and No. 8-seed Cornell Saturday in Ithaca, N.Y., to advance to the quarterfinal round of the NCAA tournament. After stopping a shot from Cornell’s Max Siebald, Schroder, a native of Kirkville, N.Y., turned the tables and notched his first-career goal to give Ohio State a 1-0 lead over the Big Red with 11:32 left in the first quarter. Schroder ended the day with nine saves, including three in the first quarter as Ohio State jumped out to a 5-1 lead.
Named to the Great Western Lacrosse League’s second team, Schroder is 15th in save percentage (.581) and 16th in goals-against average (8.02) in the NCAA rankings. In 2008, the Ohio State defense has held its opponents to nine or less goals in 12-of-16 games this season.
Drew Eberly, a senior on the men’s tennis team, sealed Ohio State’s place in the NCAA Championships’ Round of 16 Sunday, defeating East Tennessee State’s Daniel Isaza 6-2, 7-5 in No. 6 singles in the OSU Varsity Tennis Center. In the first round of the NCAA tournament, the Lake Forest, Ill., native paired with Justin Kronauge to defeat Cleveland State’s duo of Rob West and Robert Fox, 8-5, to clinch the doubles point for the Buckeyes in the 4-0 win over the Vikings Saturday.
In his career, the Buckeye ranked third all-time in doubles victories with 87 wins in four years. In four years of work, Eberly and classmate Dominic Ozanne own an Ohio State 112-14 ledger which stands as the winningest record in program history.
