Once you’ve wrestled, Dan Gable once said, everything else in life is easy. But most of us
have not experienced extreme limits of physical endurance and mental stress, not on a mat,
and so even the mundane seems difficult. We have no point of reference.
Here’s a point of reference: With 16 seconds remaining in the final match in the 141-pound
weight class at the NCAA wrestling championships, J Jaggers had his left ankle stuck in the
armpit of Chad Mendes, and Mendes was twisting “torquing” as they say. This was two weeks
ago.

“Unlike many students who finish up tough finals and are ready for the pressure to be finally lifted by enjoying a nice spring break on vacation with friends or at home with family, I did the exact opposite. I spent the most pressure-filled spring break of my life at the 2008 NCAA Wrestling Championships, where I captured the 141-pound NCAA title. It was unlike any week of my life and I would not trade it for any vacation in the world. I spent the week from Tuesday to Sunday morning in St. Louis, Mo., with my teammates, coaches, family and friends all joined together for one cause – Ohio State Wrestling – and we all prevailed as a community, not only with an individual national title but with an NCAA team runner-up finish, which is the best in Ohio State wrestling history.”
Degree lured Buckeyes star back to school
Laurinaitis says he turned his back on NFL riches to finish his studies at Ohio State.

Had the Ohio State linebacking career of James Laurinaitis ended last season, it still would be considered one of the best in Buckeye history.
The two-time All-American, however, decided in January to play his senior season after declining to enter his name for NFL draft consideration, which means the Buckeyes still have the player considered perhaps the nation’s top defender.

See balances schoolwork, sports with great success

For most students at Ohio State, a full quarter of classes is plenty to handle. But for student-athletes, such as track or cross country runners, the juggling of school and sports can be extra challenging.
One of these runners, Big Ten indoor mile champion, Jeff See, said he got off to a good start at OSU, keeping up with both his class and practice schedules.
“Basically since freshman year, I’ve had a lot of support with (Student-Athlete Support Services Office). They do a good job of teaching you the basics of writing things down and making sure you stay organized,” See said. “They are really good about making sure the student-athletes stay on top of things. You can just walk in there and say ‘Hey, I need a tutor’ and they’ll be right on top of it.”

Ohio State Cheerleaders Appear on CBS Early Show

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State cheerleaders appeared on The Early Show, a morning news program on CBS, last week in Manhattan. The squad was on the show April 3 before the men’s basketbal National Invitation Tournament in New York City’s Madison Square Garden.

Recovering Todd still has drive to coach

It was 15 minutes before an Ohio State baseball practice, and coach Bob Todd was talking
about how quickly time had flown by on him.
He wasn’t thinking in terms of that day but rather in years. This is his 21st season with the
Buckeyes and 25th as a college head coach.
On Jan. 3, 2009, he will be inducted into the American Baseball Coaches Association hall of
fame. The selection committee is composed of active and retired coaches.

Jim Lachey had a fine career at Ohio State — an all-Big Ten, All-America career, good enough to be the 12th pick in the 1985 NFL draft.
