The Wildcats got on the board at 11:45 on Matt Siddall’s goal just one second after a NMU power-play chance expired. Northern Michigan scored the only goal of the period with 51 seconds left, as Mark Olver tallied after the Buckeyes pulled Palmer for the extra attacker. Ohio State had the only power-play chance of the period.

Postgame Quotes
John Markell, Ohio State head coach
On the nature of the game
“It was a goaltending duel tonight. We were provided opportunities to get goals, but we couldn’t convert. The third period especially we had some shots but I think we pressed a little too much. In our goal, Joe Palmer stood tall and made some big saves.”
On getting the puck in the net
“We have to figure out a way to score some goals, especially on the power play. The execution was there but I think we got a little anxious and couldn’t make plays when we needed to. When you take 44 shots on goal and not one goes in it can be frustrating, but we just have to keep shooting and be aggressive.”
Johann Kroll, Ohio State senior defenseman
On the game
“Defensively we were pretty good. We began to get really aggressive in the third. Joe (Palmer) played great.”
On Brian Stewart’s 46 saves
“You have to give (Brian) Stewart credit; he was awesome all night.”
On having zero goals on 46 shots
“We were trying to throw everything at the net and get some rebounds. We just couldn’t get the puck in the net.”
On his emotions going into Senior Night Saturday
“I don’t really know. Right now I’m just disappointed about the loss tonight. The past three years the guys got pretty emotional. Maybe it will hit me tomorrow.”
Walt Kyle, Northern Michigan head coach
On Northern Michigan’s first win in the Schottenstein Center
“We have struggled down here and we knew we had to play well to get points.”
On Ohio State
“They had enough quality shots but Brian Stewart did a good job and we were fortunate to convert. They’re a good team.”
On game two
“We have to do better. We’ll be a better team tomorrow because we know they’ll be a better team.”
On Brian Stewart
“We give Brian a lot of credit. We struggled early as a team and made our goalies face goals they shouldn’t. He’s clearly taken the starting role over and pulled us out of an 1-8 start.”
Brian Stewart, Northern Michigan sophomore goalie
On the shutout
“It goes through my head during the game but I try not to think about it because the puck usually goes in when I start thinking about it.”
On the game
“I knew it was going to be a battle because we struggle down here. Our defense has been doing a great job limiting the rebounds and not giving many second chances.
