COLUMBUS, Ohio Ohio State senior forward Lisa Collison has been named to the TopDrawerSoccer.com College Team of the Week.
Collison scored the first two goals in Ohio State’s 4-0 win Friday over Wisconsin. She converted in the 22nd minute to open the scoring, off an Ashley Bowyer through ball, by sidestepping the Wisconsin keeper to score from 10-yards out. Just six minutes later Collison and Bowyer hooked up again to make the score 2-0. This time Bowyer drove a free kick from the right side into the box that Collison angled into the net off a beautiful header.
The Niagara Falls, Ontario native and graduate of Saint Michaels has been on a roll with 11 points during the Buckeyes current six-game winning streak that has improved their record to 6-4-2 overall and to 3-0-0 in the Big Ten. Here’s a recap:
- Collison scored the game winner off a terrific through ball from Emily Esbrook in the 3-1 win over Evansville.
- Two days later she set up the tying goal in the 82nd minute of a 2-1 win over Louisville, sending a ball into the box that freshman Taylor Moront “headed” into the net. She then scored the game-winner in the 98th minute for her 10th career game-winning goal.
- She added another game-winner in the team’s 2-0 win over Wright State.
- Then came her two goals last Friday vs. Wisconsin, which increased her team-leading totals to six goals and 14 points this season.
Collison’s streak has moved her into second-place all-time at Ohio State with 34 career goals. She trails only Lisa Grubb (35 goals from 2001-06). Collison’s 78 career points rank fourth all-time at Ohio State.
Collison and the Buckeyes hit the road this week for games against Michigan State at 4 p.m. Friday in East Lansing and Michigan at 1 p.m. Sunday in Ann Arbor.
