Donald Washington, Brian Robiskie and Ryan Pretorius speak to the media at Jim Tressel’s weekly press luncheon
After Jim Tressel’s weekly press luncheon, Buckeyes Donald Washington, Brian Robiskie and Ryan Pretorius met with the media to talk about their 38-6 win over Youngstown State last Saturday and the upcoming game with Akron.
Donald Washington, sophomore defensive back
On man-to-man versus zone defense
“I would rather play man-to-man. When you play man-to-man you are only responsible for one guy instead of an entire area. If you can handle him, that is all you have to worry about.”
On defensive improvements
“I think we can improve as a defense overall and working together. The defensive line can provide more pressure and the backfield can improve on coverage. The secondary is getting better everyday in practice.”
On Anderson Russell’s return
“It is great to have him back. Anderson and I came in at the same time and there is a trust there. He is a big, strong, fast player and it is good to see him back.”
On the defense
“The defense just needs to continue to gel together and have enthusiasm. As a defense you have to have a lot of enthusiasm to compete.”
On watching film
“Whether it is week one or week 12, we watch a lot of film. I wouldn’t say we will watch more film than normal this week but we will definitely be prepared.”
Ryan Pretorius, junior kicker
On staying at Ohio State
“I am so glad I stayed. I have 125 best friends this team is like a family. I think Ohio State is the greatest university in the world.”
On football versus rugby
“I do not have to hit in football like I did in rugby. I just have to kick the ball between two sticks. The main difference is I have a lot more pressure in my situation now.”
On his Ohio State teammates playing rugby
“I think the linebackers would make great flankers. They are quick and hard-nosed. Anyone on this team would be a good player. My teammates have some of the best hands I have ever seen and the quickest feet.”
Brian Robiskie, junior split end
On Quarterback Todd Boeckman
“I thought Todd did a great job. He has really grown and shown great leadership. The offensive line gave him a lot of time and he was able to make good throws and make good reads on the defense.”
On going up against Ohio State’s defensive backs in practice
“It helps tremendously. We worked out together this summer and then went against each other all camp. They are some of the best DB’s in the nation. It brings out the best in us whenever you can go against the talent they we have at that position.”
On the Michigan loss and how it puts opponents in perspective
“Anyone can get beat by anybody on any given Saturday. We know that and our coaches do a great job getting us to focus and respect every opponent. We have Akron coming in this weekend and they’re a good team. We just need to continue to grow and improve.”
On his and the rest of the wide receiving cores production against Youngstown State
“I wasn’t expecting it (his nine catches for 153 yards). We have a good group and were able to prepare in the summer together. The wide receivers are all very talented.”
On the contributions from the freshman against Youngstown State
“I wasn’t surprised. They came in here early and starting working hard. They’re extremely talented and have great speed.”
