Ohio State Football Award Winners
Outstanding play against Northwestern recognized
COLUMBUS, Ohio The OhioState football coaching staff has selected its weekly award winners for outstanding play in the 58-7 win over Northwestern in Saturday’s Big Ten opener.
Quarterback Todd Boeckman was selected as offensive player of the week, and defensive lineman Vernon Gholston earned the Buckeyes’ defensive player of the week award. Freshman Brian Rolle was recognized as the special units player of the week.
Scout team champions were: Offense: none; Defense: Matt Daniels; Special Units: Joe Gantz. The “Attack Force” award went to linebacker Marcus Freeman. Tackle Alex Boone won the Jim Parker lineman award; the Jack Tatum Hit of the Week will be selected by team vote at Tuesday’s meeting from among four contenders.
OhioState (4-0) visits Minnesota (1-3) Saturday for a Big Ten night game that will be televised by ESPN2.
