Ohio State Celebrates Student-Athletes at Summer Commencement – Ohio State Buckeyes

Twenty-four Buckeyes received diplomas Sunday
COLUMBUS, Ohio Twenty-four former Ohio State student-athletes were awarded degrees Sunday at the university’s summer commencement held in the Jerome Schottenstein Center. Graduates included men’s hockey’s Nate Guenin (’03-’06) and Scott May (’01-’04) and men’s soccer’s Ray Burse Jr. (2002-05) and softball’s Nycole Koyano (2004-07).
Finishing up school in the offseason, former Buckeyes and current AHL (American Hockey League) hockey players Guenin and May both graduated from Fisher College of Business with bachelor’s of science degrees in business administration. Guenin, a member of the Philadelphia Phantoms, saw time in six games for the Philadelphia Flyers in his rookie season, while May, split the 2006-07 with the Phoenix Roadrunners and Iowa Stars. At Iowa, May played 35 games and had five goals and five assists.
Drafted in the third round of the 2006 MLS (Major League Soccer) SuperDraft, Burse Jr., a former standout goalkeeper for the Buckeyes, is now playing for MLS’s F.C. Dallas. The Prospect, Ky., native was a three-year starter for the Buckeyes and logged 13 shutouts, the fourth most by a keeper at Ohio State.
Koyano, OSU’s 2007 Defensive Player of the Year, led the team to its first Big Ten tournament win in program history earning her a spot on the All-Big Ten tournament team. At Ohio State, Koyano became the first Buckeye to lead the team in steals and runs all four years.
