Matta, Smith and Kellogg address Columbus Sports Commission supporters
COLUMBUS, Ohio – Gene Smith, director of athletics at Ohio State, and Thad Matta, head coach of the men’s basketball team, represented the Buckeyes Tuesday at the annual Columbus Sports Report breakfast in downtown Columbus. Clark Kellogg, CBS basketball analyst and former star at Ohio State, along with Matta were the featured speakers at the event.
The event, held at the Columbus Convention Center, recognizes the accomplishments of the Greater Columbus Sports Commission and the sports-related events it attracts to central Ohio. The organization has attracted about 75 unique events and more than $90 million to the local economy.
Ohio State has helped attract and played host to several of the NCAA events on the Sports Commission’s resume. The NCAA first and second rounds of both the men’s and women’s basketball tournaments and the NCAA Frozen Four are just a few.
One of the larger events already scheduled for the future is the 2008 USA Track and Field Junior Championships at Ohio State’s Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium June 20-22.
