Lisa Chesson Invited to USA Hockey Women’s National Festival – Ohio State Buckeyes

Buckeye head coach Jackie Barto to attend as head coach of the National Team
COLUMBUS, Ohio Lisa Chesson of the Ohio State women’s hockey team has been invited to participate in the USA Hockey Women’s National Team Festival, the USA Hockey organization announced Monday. The festival will be held Aug. 14-21 in Lake Placid, N.Y. This is the second-consecutive summer Chesson has attended the event. Ohio State head coach Jackie Barto also will be at the festival as she was named the head coach of the U.S. National Team June 6.
Chesson, a native of Plainfield, Ill., who is entering her senior season as an assistant captain of the Buckeyes, is one of 27 athletes vying for a place on the Under-22 Select Team. Following the festival, the 22-player roster will host Canada for a three-game series at the Olympic Center Aug. 23-26.
Chesson completed the 2006-07 season as one of the top offensive defensemen in the nation. She ranked sixth in defenseman scoring in the nation with an average of 1.0 points per game and totaled 37 points (13g, 24a) to finish 12th in overall scoring in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association. A key member of the Buckeye power play and penalty kill units, Chesson was named Third Team All-WCHA for the second time in as many years.
A total of 66 players were invited to the festival with athletes competing for places on the Under-18, Under-22 and U.S. National teams. Chesson is one of 22 defensemen attending, along with eight goaltenders and 36 forwards. She also is one of 14 student-athletes who played in the WCHA conference during 2006-07.
