My Summer Favorites: Mallory Peckels – Ohio State Buckeyes

Mallory Peckels is a senior forward on the Ohio State women’s hockey team. A two-time recipient of the team’s Seventh Player Award for her teamwork and and great attitude, she was named an assistant captain of the Buckeyes for the 2007-08 season. In 110 career games, Peckels has scored 12 goals and 37 assists for 49 points and has been a key member of both the power play and penalty kill units. A native of Minoqua, Wis., she is majoring in social work and have earned numerous academic awards, including a two-time AWHCA Scholar All-American and WCHA Scholar-Athlete honoree.
Do you stay on campus in the summer? If so, what for? If not, where do you go?
I go home to Minocqua, Wisconsin in the summer…It’s an amazing place, probably one of the world’s best kept secrets.
Are you working any internships or jobs this summer?
I’m volunteering as waterfront staff at a Younglife Camp in Lake Champion, N.Y. for most of July.
What is your favorite thing about summer?
Seeing my family!! And, being on the lakes all day long, waterskiing and boating
My favorite childhood summer memory is …
Riding the Sea-Doos over to the “otter slide” on our lake. The otter slide is a huge sand hill with a rope swing at the top and you would swing off the rope swing into the sand and run/slide all the way down into the lake.
What is your favorite thing to do outdoors?
Use my loon call
What was your worst summer job?
Raking up the weeds and junk that floated ashore onto the beach and pitchforking it all into a wheelbarrow and then dumping the mess back deep in the woods.
Favorite ice cream flavor: Zanzibar Chocolate
Favorite summer vacation spot: Lac du Flambeau, WI
Favorite thing on the grill: Shish kabobs
Favorite piece of summer apparel (sandals, shorts, etc.): Swimsuit
