Jim Tressel, Head Coach
On the team after the game Saturday
“We will hopefully see some drastic improvement from spring to fall. Now that we have some footage of the game, the guys can see what they are doing. If a kid comes in and studies film on his own, he usually makes some drastic improvements. I think our guys will do that.”
On how the teams played
“If we had to play a game tomorrow, I think we would probably have the same line-up. I don’t know if anyone took steps back today, but some took steps forward. I think everyone progressed. It was an exciting game to watch.”
Brian Robiskie, junior wide receiver
On the team
“I think everyone had a really great spring. They really wanted to come out here and have a strong spring game. They come out and practice hard every day. Everyone gets stronger every day.”
On the quarterbacks
“I think the battle for the quarterback position will continue. They all tried to get better each day during spring practices. Today might have been different since we were going back and forth. They all did a pretty good job. They are all very talented players.”
On the attendance
“It just reminds me why I came here. A lot of universities wish they had the support we have. Before the game this morning, I drove around campus and saw people tailgating at 9 a.m. It is just great to see and know we have so many fans.”
Marcus Freeman, junior linebacker
On the defensive line
“We have taken the steps to be the defensive team we want to be. Ultimately our goal is to be the No. 1 defense in the country. After we saw what happened, we have a long way to go to accomplish that.”
On the spring game
“It was fun to be a part of the game today. Before the game we thought the basketball players were just going to be on the sidelines, but then they put headphones on and started to call some plays. It was fun to see that.”
Maurice Wells, junior tailback
On winning the Gray team winning bragging rights
“Scarlet had power coming in and felt they had the advantage on paper. They came in with a lot of confidence. We played with the best of our ability and game out with the win.”
On his experience this spring practice
“I felt I’ve had a decent spring. It hasn’t been anything great, but that is what the coaches evaluate. I come to each practice and play hard to better myself and the team to have a great season this year.”
On quarterback Rob Schoenhoft
“Robbie is a good leader. He put points on the board and stayed calm. He had good throws, good decisions and led us on the field as a good quarterback should.”
On working with the basketball team
“As soon as I found out they were calling the plays I was like, `Do you even know the plays?’ They did a good job and asked us what plays we like. We just stuck to those.”
On wearing the Virginia Tech logo on the Ohio State helmet
“We wore them (the VT logo) to show how life is so precious everyday. Coach Tressel told us this, that everyday is precious and to take each day as it were your last.”
AJ Trapasso, junior punter
On special teams Saturday
“Coming off the end of the season last year, I leveled off at the end. I wanted to start this year where I started at last year. Aaron Pettrey ended last year making his last five (field goals) and came in this season with a lot of confidence. Everybody just needs to work on consistency and getting the ball over the line. We do have a lot of confidence right now though.”
