As a true freshman, Lance Palmer finished fourth at 149 poundsat the 2007 NCAA Wrestling Championships at The Palace of AuburnHills in Auburn Hills, Mich. Palmer became first-year head coachTom Ryan’s first All-American when he advanced to the semifinals ofthe championship bracket. A participant in the Parade ofAll-Americans, Palmer helped the Buckeyes to a Top 10 finish atnationals for the first time since 2004. Teresa Meyer, of thepistol team, defended her women’s air pistol championship and wonthe open standard pistol championship at the NRA NationalIntercollegiate Championships at the United States Military Academylast week. She also finished first in the women’s two-gun aggregatefor her third individual championship of the seven events. In thewomen’s air pistol championship, Meyer held a one point lead at theend of competition and won by eight points (464.9) after the finalswere shot. Meyer finished third in women’s sport pistol with a 651,was 14th in open air pistol with a 549, tied for 18th in open freepistol with a 495 and finished seventh in the three-gun aggregate.

Men’s basketball, the outright 2007 Big Ten regular season andtournament champions, enter the NCAA South Regional semifinals witha 32-3 overall record after a 15-1 regular season mark in Big TenConference play. The Buckeyes face Tennessee, the No. 5 seed in theSouth Regional, Thursday with the winner taking on No. 2 Memphis orNo. 3 Texas A&M Saturday. Ohio State is the No. 1 seed in theSouth Region. Memphis and Texas A&M tip at 6:27 p.m. (CT)Thursday in the first semifinal. Ohio State and Tennessee tip 30minutes after the conclusion Game 1. The winners of each SouthRegion semifinal will meet Saturday with a chance to advance to the2007 Final Four March 31 and April 2 in Atlanta. The women’sbasketball team finished its season with a 28-4 record and made itsfifth-consecutive NCAA tournament appearance. The three-timeregular-season Big Ten champions were defeated in the first roundof the NCAA tournament Saturday by Marist, 67-63. StephanieBlanton, Jessica Davenport, the three-time reigning Big Ten playerof the year, and Brandie Hoskins finished their Ohio State careersas the winningest class in OSU history. They led the Buckeyes to108 victories in their four season wearing the Scarlet and Gray.Sunday, Davenport earned her undergraduate degree in FamilyResource Management/Consumer Affairs. At 141 pounds, Jaggers finished seventh to garner All-America honors in his first appearance at nationals. A true freshman, Palmer advanced to the semifinals of the championship bracket at 149 pounds before finishing fourth. Fellow freshman, Pucillo placed sixth at 184 pounds and Bergman earned his second-career All-America laurel with a fourth-place outing at 197 pounds.
The four All-Americans under head coach Tom Ryan are the most for a first-year OSU coach.
Pistol finished second in the women’s events and fifth in theopen events at the NRA National Intercollegiate Championships atthe United States Military Academy last week. Ohio State shot a2,691 in the women’s event, second to the U.S. Naval Academy whichshot 2,704. The Buckeyes won the women’s air pistol event with a1,076 score and finished third in women’s sport pistol with a1,615. The winning women’s air pistol team included Teresa Meyer(373), Krystin Schmid (359) and Erin Meadows (344). In the openevents, Ohio State finished third in air pistol at 2,160, seventhin free pistol at 1,893 and fourth in standard pistol at 2,091.OSU’s open score was 6,144 while MIT won the championship with a6,372.
Individually, Meyer won three events, women’s air pistol and the open standard pistol and was first in the women’s two-gun aggregate. Meyer finished third in women’s sport, 14th in air pistol, tied for 18th in free pistol and was seventh in the three-gun aggregate. Schmid finished fifth in women’s air, 14th in women’s sport, tied for ninth in standard pistol, tied for 22nd in free pistol and was eighth in the women’s two-gun aggregate. Other individual finishers included Nate Hamm who was 30th in free pistol and Mark Burns who was 30th in standard pistol.
The baseball team has won nine straight games to improve to10-3 on the year, including wins in its first four games of itsspring break trip in Bradenton, Fla. In Florida, the Buckeyes havedefeated Bucknell (9-5), Jacksonville State (8-3), Dartmouth (6-3)and Yale (11-3). J.B. Shuck and Matt Angle lead the team in battingin Bradenton, each hitting .429. Shuck is tops for RBI with six.Josh Barrera, Cory Luebke, Theron Minium and Shuck were the winningpitchers in the four games. Minium, a freshman, earned his firstcareer win in his first career start against Yale. Ohio State willwrap up its spring break trip with games against Yale Wednesday at10:30 a.m. ET, Northwestern Thursday at 1:30 p.m. and HarvardFriday at 11:30. The Buckeyes’ home opener is next Wednesday at 2p.m. vs. Toledo. Also, Eric Fryer is one of 27 catchers to appearon the official watch list for the 2007 Coleman Company-JohnnyBench Award, the Greater Wichita Area Sports Commission announcedMarch 15. The softball team is in Los Angeles this week for a sixgame spring break tip. The Buckeyes (14-10) will face Long BeachState, Loyola Marymount, San Diego State, Utah and Cal StateFullerton. In Ohio State’s home opener last Sunday, sophomore KimReeder and senior Jamee Juarez threw back-to-back no-hitters tolead the Buckeyes to a sweep of Oakland, 9-1 and 5-0. Freshman SamMarder leads Ohio State at the plate with a .362 average, sevenhome runs and 23 runs batted in. The men’s gymnastics team (7-4overall; 2-1 Big Ten) posted a team season high to defeat then No.1-ranked Michigan, 220.5-215.85, Saturday at John Arena. The scorewas the Buckeyes’ highest since the 2005 NCAA Championships(225.45) propelled Ohio State to the No.1 spot in the GymInfonational rankings for the first time this season. Against theWolverines, the Buckeyes won five of the six events and posted teamseason highs on horse, vault, parallel bars and high bar. Junior DJBucher was named Big Ten Gymnast of the Week after he claimed firston all three of his events for the second time this season. Bucherwon on pommel horse (9.3), rings (9.5) and parallel bars (9.65) andclassmate Jimmy Wickham noted his third win on vault with aseason-high 9.35. Sophomore Jake Bateman tied Bucher on rings tonotch his first event win of the year and senior Kristopher Klinescored a personal-best 9.5 on high bar to grab first place.
The Buckeyes take the floor at the 2007 Big Ten Championships March 30-31 in Minneapolis, Minn., as the defending two-time Big Ten Champions. Ohio State looks to defend its back-to-back conference titles and add a third crown in as many years for the first time in program history.
The 20th-ranked women’s gymnastics team travels to BowlingGreen, Ohio, Saturday night for the All-Ohio Championships, whichwill conclude Ohio State’s regular season. The Buckeyes travel toPenn State next week for the Big Ten championships. The women’stennis team upset No. 16 and defeated Wichita State, 4-3, Monday inFort Myers, Fla. Freshman Christina Keesey clinched the Buckeye winwith a three-set victory at the No. 3 position. For herperformance, Keesey earned her first Big Ten Women’s Tennis Playerof the Week honor. Junior Caitlin O’Keefe and freshman Ally Muelleralso posted wins at Nos. 5 and 2, respectively. The Buckeyes closedout the day with a 7-0 win over Florida Gulf Coast, extending theirwinning streak to six.
Ohio State returns to Big Ten play with matches at Minnesota Friday and Iowa Sunday.
The men’s lacrosse team returned to action Tuesday at Towson,falling to the Tigers, 10-8. Sophomore Joel Dalgarno had ateam-high three assists and five points, while he, Kevin Buchananand Jeff Ryan each had two goals. Goalie Stefan Schroder made 10saves in the loss.
The Buckeyes remain in Maryland to face UMBC at 1 p.m. Sunday in Baltimore.
Women’s lacrosse (3-1, 0-1 American Lacrosse Conference) won,8-4, at Davidson Sunday with a 6-2 second half edge in scoringafter the first half ended 2-2. Jessica Patane scored three goalsand added an assists with Kristen Slahor scoring two goals andadding two assists. Brittney Zerhusen had a goal and two assists inthe game. In goal, Kristen Gilwee got the win recording 12 saveswhile giving up four goals. First half goals by Amanda Shimp andSlahor kept the Buckeyes in the game. Ohio State trailed 3-2 in thesecond half before a 5-0 Buckeye run put the Buckeyes ahead, 7-3. APatane goal tied the game at three. Kelly Haggerty and Slahor withgoals made it 5-3. Two Patane goals made it 7-3. Davidson scored tomake it 7-4 but a Zerhusen goal closed out the game at 8-4. OhioState continues on the road this week when they play atsixth-ranked Notre Dame Wednesday and at St. Bonaventure Sunday. Inits quest for a 25th national championship, the synchronizedswimming team will head to Norton, Mass., for the 2007 U.S.Collegiate National Championships Thursday-Saturday at BalfourNatatorium. Wheaton College will serve as the host school of theevent.
Ohio State finished first with 105 points at the North Regional championships March 3 at the Bill and Mae McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion in Columbus, Ohio, to qualify for the collegiate nationals. The Top 12 teams and routines from each of the four regional competitions advanced to the collegiate nationals.
The fencing team sends 11 members to Madison, N.J., this weekfor the 2007 National Championships. Ohio State won the 2004national title with the maximum 12 fencers and has placed in theTop 4 five consecutive years. Men’s volleyball (16-1, 5-0 MIVA,first place), ranked seventh nationally returns to action this weekwhen they host 14th ranked Loyola (16-5, 5-3, third) Friday at 7p.m. in St. John Arena. The men’s tennis team’s match at defendingnational champion and 20th-ranked Pepperdine was rained out Tuesdayand will not be rescheduled. The Buckeyes (13-1) return to Columbusfor five consecutive home matches, beginning at noon Saturdayagainst Iowa. The men’s golf team finished in 15th place at the E-ZGo Chris Schenkel Invitational Sunday in a field that includedeight Top 25 teams. The Buckeyes shot rounds of 298-302-303 (903)over the two-day, 54-hole event at the Forest Heights Country Club(par 72, 6,962) in Statesboro, Ga. Ohio State senior Jared Jones(Kenova, W.Va./Spring Valley) led the Buckeyes and had his besttournament total of the season after shooting rounds of 73-75-76(224) and tied for 38th place. The Buckeyes return to action April7-8 at the Boilermaker Invitational in West Lafayette, Ind. Thewomen’s golf team will conclude play at the Dr. Donnis ThompsonInvitational in Honolulu, Hawaii Wednesday. The Buckeyes will beginthe final round at 7:30 a.m. The rowing team, ranked No. 6 in theCRCA/USRowing preseason poll released March 15, opens its 2007season Saturday in Princeton, N.J. The Buckeyes, who begin their12th season under head coach Andy Teitelbaum, will face thetop-ranked Princeton and No. 3 Brown. The Bears and Tigers finishedsecond and third, respectively, at the 2006 NCAA Championships.Ohio State won the 2006 Big Ten Championship as well as itsfourth-consecutive Central Region title en route to finishing fifthas a team at the NCAA championships. Junior defenseman TessaBonhomme of the women’s hockey team was named RBK Hockey/AHCASecond Team All-America the American Hockey Coaches Associationannounced Thursday. She is the third Buckeye to garner All-Americanhonors, joining Jana Harrigan (2006) and Emma Laaksonen (2002).Bonhomme, a native of Sudbury, Ontario, concluded the 2006-07season with 36 points on 14 goals and 22 assists. She scored fourgame-winning goals and 17 of her points were scored on the powerplay, including six goals. Bonhomme ranked fourth in the NCAA indefenseman scoring with 1.09 points per game. She was one of justeight blueliners in the nation to record double-digits in goals andassists. Her 14 goals were the most by any defenseman in the WCHAand ranked as the third-highest defenseman total in the nation.
Bonhomme also was selected Third Team All-USCHO, along with senior defensive partner Amber Bowman, the U.S. College Hockey Online site announced Thursday. Junior forward Erin Keys was named the nation’s Most Improved Player. It was the first seasonal USCHO honor for all three Buckeyes. Bowman finished second on the team in scoring for the second year in a row with 38 points. Her 29 assists led the team and were the second most by a blueliner in the nation. She finished fifth overall in NCAA defenseman scoring with 1.03 points per game. Keys entered 2006-07 with a total of 23 points in her first two seasons. This year she led Ohio State in scoring with 48 points, the second most by a Buckeye in a single season. She also had a team-high 22 goals and led the WCHA with 12 power play goals.
The women’s track and field team gets its outdoor seasonunderway at the Auburn Springtime Invitational Saturday. The men’strack and field team travels to Tempe, Ariz., for the start of its2007 outdoor season. The Buckeyes will compete in the Arizona StateInvitational Friday and Saturday.
