COLUMBUS, Ohio – Junior defenseman Tessa Bonhomme of the Ohio State women’s hockey team has been selected to the RBK Hockey/AHCA All-American Second Team, the American Hockey Coaches Association announced Thursday. Bonhomme is the third Buckeye to earn AHCA All-American honors, joining Jana Harrigan (second team, 2006) and Emma Laaksonen (second team, 2002). The RBK All-American Ice Hockey Teams are sponsored by RBK Hockey and chosen by members of the AHCA.
Out of the 12 honorees, Bonhomme was one of four juniors selected. The list also included six seniors, one sophomore and one freshman. There were five Western Collegiate Hockey Association players recognized with the other four coming from Wisconsin: Jesse Vetter, Meaghan Mikkelson and Sara Bauer of the first team and Bobbi-Jo Slusar of the second team.
Along with being named an AHCA All-American, Bonhomme also was a First Team All-WCHA and Third Team All-USCHO honoree as well as a Top 10 finalist for the Patty Kazmaier Memorial Award this year. She was named the league’s defensive player of the week three times.
Bonhomme, a native of Sudbury, Ontario, concluded the 2006-07 season with 36 points on 14 goals and 22 assists. She scored four game-winning goals and 17 of her points were scored on the power play, including six goals. Bonhomme ranked fourth in the NCAA in defenseman scoring with 1.09 points per game. She was one of just eight blueliners in the nation to record double-digits in goals and assists. Her 14 goals were the most by any defenseman in the WCHA and ranked as the third-highest defenseman total in the nation.
Bonhomme returned to the Buckeyes this season after redshirting last year because of participating in the Canadian National Centralization Program in preparation for the 2006 Winter Olympics. She missed four games in 2006-07: two while playing with Team Canada in the Four Nations Cup in November and two while making her third appearance with the Canadian Under-22 Team, playing in an international tournament in Germany in January.
Most recently, Bonhomme was named to the Team Canada roster for the World Women’s Championship that will take place April 3-10 in Winnipeg and Selkirk, Manitoba.
