Buckeyes Learn Financial Responsibility Through The Hartford’s Playbook For Life – Ohio State Buckeyes

Former Buckeye Clark Kellogg returns to campus to talk about financial experiences
COLUMBUS, Ohio The Ohio State Student-Athlete Support Services Office welcomed The Hartford financial company Tuesday for a presentation of the “Playbook for Life” a program set up by the company and the NCAA to help student-athletes learn financial responsibility and the importance of planning for the future.
Former Buckeye Clark Kellogg, a member of the Ohio State men’s basketball team from 1980-82, joined the presentation, telling a group of 90 student-athletes about his financial history. He discussed what he has experienced and learned during various levels of employment, from professional basketball to his current role as a college basketball analyst.
Former student-athletes who work in the financial industry with The Hartford talked about the importance of living within ones means and looking out for the unexpected bumps in the road that affect finances, whether a professional athlete or not. Goal-setting, credit, housing and investing were just some of the topics addressed.
“Anytime you can educate and empower student-athletes to take control of their lives in every aspect is always helpful,” Kellogg said. “Being a former student-athlete, I can appreciate the value when you present something that has some impact on who they are and who they are becoming. It can make a difference. I was really excited to be a part of this presentation.”
