Women’s Volleyball Falls to No. 8 Wisconsin, 3-0 – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State (8-10 overall, 2-7 Big Ten) women’s volleyball team fell 3-0 (30-17, 30-27, 30-21) to No. 8 Wisconsin (17-1, 9-0) Friday night at the Wisconsin Field House. Ohio State’s Katie Dull (Fr., Solon, Ohio) posted a team-high 10 kills for the Buckeyes netting 10.5 points in the match. Buckeye Danielle Meyer (Sr., Cincinnati, Ohio) had a team-high 11.5 points with eight kills, one ace serve and five assist blocks. Wisconsin’s Brittney Dolgner posted a match-high 17.5 points with 17 kills and an assist block with Audra Jeffers adding 14 points with 10 kills, a solo block and six assists.
Wisconsin broke a 5-5 tie in game one with a Dolgner kill and an Amanda Berkley ace serve to open a 7-5 lead. After a Badger error (7-6), Wisconsin scored the next five points to take a 12-6 lead. The Badgers expanded the lead and won, 30-17, with an Allison Wack-Jeffers block. The Badgers hit .333 for the game to .029 for Ohio State.
The Badgers, with game two tied at nine, used an OSU error and a Dolgner kill to take a 11-9 lead. Wisconsin expanded the lead to 26-20. A Meyer-Ashley Hughes (So., Carroll, Ohio) block and a Meyer ace serve cut the margin to 26-22. Dolgner, with a kill, made it 27-22. A kill from Kaila Calhoun (Fr., Elkhart, Ind.) and a Badger error cut the margin to three at 27-24. After a Wisconsin time out, a Buckeye error and a Dull kill moved the score to 28-25. A Dolgner kill set game point at 29-25. A Briana McCarthy (Sr., Beaver Dam, Wis.) kill and a Badger error stopped two game points at 29-27. Dolgner closed out the game with a kill for a 30-27 win and a 2-0 lead in the match. Wisconsin hit .217 for the game to .182 for the Buckeyes.
After eight early ties in game three, Wisconsin used an eight-point run to break an 8-8 tie, taking a 16-8 lead. Leading 29-21, a Jocelyn Wack ace serve closed out the game at 30-21 to give Wisconsin a 3-0 victory in the match. The Badgers hit .132 in the game to .059 for the Buckeyes.
For the match, Wisconsin had a 50-33 advantage in kills and out hit the Buckeyes, .228 to .098. The Badgers had a six to two edge in ace serves with Megan Mills collecting a match-high two. Each squad gave up four service errors. Defensively, Wisconsin had a 49-36 margin in digs. Badger Jocelyn Wack posted a match-high 16 digs with OSU’s Ami Stevens (Sr., Centerburg, Ohio) recording 12. At the net, the Badgers had a 14.5 to 5.5 advantage in team blocks. Wisconsin’s Jackie Simpson and Jeffers shared match-high honors with seven total blocks each recording a solo and six assists. Simpson posted a match-high 45 assists for the Badgers with OSU’s Hughes collecting 25.
Ohio State closes out four straight road matches Sunday at 2 p.m. playing at Illinois.
