Ohio State Coaches’ Quotes, October 17, 2007
Paul Haynes, Safeties Coach
On facing his former colleagues
“The guys that I worked with, John L. really taught me a lot. I worked with those guys coming up through Louisville. It’s what got me introduced to the Big Ten. It was a great place, I can’t complain about it.”
On Anderson Russell
“He practiced. At the time (of the injury) it seemed like it would be worse. It wasn’t really a re-injury. It was the same ankle just in a different spot. He’ll be ready Saturday.”
On Michigan State’s power running game
“They know us more than anyone. Both backs are powerful. It’s going to be a good test for us as far as a toughness game.”
On recruiting Javon Ringer when he was at Michigan State
“We were very happy to get him. It was a surprise that we got him because he wanted to be a Buckeye. He’s very explosive. He’s a tough, tough kid. Hitting him in the knee or ankle is not going to keep him out. We probably wouldn’t have had a chance at him had he not got hurt (in high school), but getting hurt doesn’t slow him down.”
On Brian Hoyer
“I think Hoyer is playing with a lot of confidence and is comfortable with the offense he’s running. He doesn’t play out of his game. They don’t ask him to do things he can’t do. They ask him to sit back in the pocket and get his playmakers the football and that’s what he does.”
Jim Bollman, Offensive Coordinator
On the offensive line
“I think they’re improving. I don’t think any og them would say they are where they need to be. But, I think there headed in the right direction. They’re playing through a lot of nicks and nacks. They’re not 100 percent all the time, but they’ve been able to hang in there pretty well.”
On Jim Cordle playing injured
“That kind of came up one day (snapping the ball left handed) and that’s what he decided and we’ve gone that way and we’ll go that way until he gets the cast off. He’s had some difficulty at times, but he’s doing a pretty good job.”
On Beanie Wells
“I think he looks like he’s back to full go. I haven’t noticed anything different. I think he’ll be ready to go. I think everyone is ready to go.”
On Michigan State’s defensive front
“These guys have been really effect. They play really low, very hard. They cause a lot of havoc. Their defensive ends are pretty high in the Big Ten stats causing fumbles. They set a Big Ten record and their leaders in sacks. It’ll be a real problem for us.”
