Buckeyes top first ratings
COLUMBUS, Ohio Undefeated Ohio State (7-0) tops the first release of the Bowl Championship Series standings for 2007.
Comments from Coach Jim Tressel and the Ohio State captains:
Jim Tressel: “Our guys have done what they have needed to do to this point in the year, and we are pleased with that effort and progress, but not content. With the most demanding part of our schedule remaining with five Big Ten conference games, there is a lot of work ahead of us. We’ve improved each week, but we understand that the only poll that counts is the last one.”
OT Kirk Barton: “It’s always nice to be in the top position, but we know it doesn’t mean anything now in week 8. We’ll see at the end of November how things stand. We just need to keep doing what we’re doing as Ohio State football and make sure we are getting better every week.”
LB James Laurinaitis: “It’s an honor to be considered among the top teams in the country, but it doesn’t mean anything until the last game of the season. We found that out last year. We need to focus and take of Michigan State and the work ahead of us in the Big Ten.”
RB Dionte Johnson: “It’s nice to be considered No. 1, but we have gotten there by doing what we do: playing every Saturday as our most important game. There’s no reason to change that formula or think about anything differently now. The polls and standings will work out for themselves if we do our part.”
No. 1 Ohio State hosts Michigan State this Saturday in a 3:30 p.m. Homecoming game at Ohio Stadium that will be televised by ABC.
