No. 10 Buckeyes Fall to No. 1 Wisconsin, 4-0 – Ohio State Buckeyes

Liana Bonanno makes 33 saves as Ohio State opens WCHA play
MADISON, Wis. The 10th-ranked Ohio State women’s hockey team fell to No. 1 Wisconsin by a score of 4-0 Saturday at the Kohl Center in Madison, Wis. The game opened the Western Collegiate Hockey Association schedule for the Buckeyes, who are 1-2-0 overall. The Badgers improve to 5-0-0 with a 1-0-0 league record.
Junior goaltender Liana Bonanno made 33 saves in the game, including 12 of them while Wisconsin was on the power play. It was the 11th game of her career with 30 or more saves for the native of Mount Sinai, N.Y.
The Badgers scored twice in the first period to take a 2-0 lead into the first intermission. Mallory Deluce opened the scoring just 1:49 into the game with a power play goal scored five-hole on Bonanno. Wisconsin scored again at 9:21 during a scramble in front of the net. With Bonanno down, Kelly Nash flipped the puck in from the left corner. Bonanno made 13 saves in the opening 20 minutes.
In a more evenly played second period, the Buckeyes totaled seven shots to Wisconsin’s 12. The Badgers added one goal for a 3-0 lead heading into the second intermission. Jasmine Giles batted in her own rebound at 16:41 for the unassisted goal.
Wisconsin added its last goal at 5:23 of the third period for a final score of 4-0. Kayla Hagen had her first shot blocked, but picked up the puck on the right side and tapped it in.
Overall, the Badgers had a 37-12 advantage in shots. The Buckeye penalty kill was 5-of-6 while the power play was 0-of-2.
Ohio State and Wisconsin will conclude the two-game series with a 1:07 p.m. (CT) game Sunday at the Kohl Center.
