They saw it from the stands during media day Friday. On Sunday, the Buckeyes finally had a chance to be on the field at University of Phoenix Stadium as the team held its walk-through in Glendale.
With high-powered fans still drying the freshly-painted logos on the prescription turf, Ohio State went over its final preparations before meeting Florida Monday night in the 2007 BCS National Championship Game.
The stadium, which will host Super Bowl XLII in 2008, had its retractable roof closed for the walk-through, like it will be Monday night soon after the game ball is parachuted in.
In its design, University of Phoenix Stadium was molded like a barrel cactus. Even when the roof is closed, large upper windows let in the natural sunlight that dominates the Valley of the Sun.
Not only is the roof retractable, but the field is, as well, marking a first for such a feature in a North American stadium. The seating capacity has been expanded to about 73,000 for Monday night’s game.
Now inside 24 hours until kickoff, the Buckeyes will hold a team meeting Sunday night at their home-away-from-home, the Fairmont Princess Resort in Scottsdale.
