Ohio State Head Coach Jim Tressel
On the weather for the game
“Last time we went up there is was really cold and windy. We were hoping to have a few of those days in practice, but from what I hear it is suppose to be wonderful for the game.”
On Iowa defensive end Kenny Iwebema
“He is a guy that is going to play in the NFL one day. He plays low and is a great pass rusher. He is a difference maker.”
On injuries on the team
“Todd Boeckman will travel but I’m not sure if he’ll be able to play. He’ll need to improve a bit between now and the game. Roy Hall is back and other then that we are pretty healthy.”
On head coach Kirk Ferentz
“He is one of their own and has done a great job of bringing tradition back to Iowa. He was an assistant there under Hayden Frye for quite a while, then got some good experience in the NFL and as a head coach. You just have to look at the film to see how good they are. They are a tough team and head-to-head we always know we are going to get their best shot.”
On Ohio State’s offence
“When it comes down to it, you really don’t want to be `jack of all trades and a master of none.’ You have to mix it up to keep people on their heels, but you have to know what you can depend on.”
Jim Bollman, offensive coordinator and offensive line coach
On consistency of the OSU offensive line
“Doug Datish has probably been the most consistent in the first four games. He is the one with the most winning performances. We are improving, but need to keep improving. We are counting on the younger guys improving and to keep continuing to get better.” On Antonio Pittman
“He is continually a more consistent guy. He is a guy we figure on being good running and receiving. He does a good job pass blocking. We are looking for him to improve on all parts of the game so we can use him for more. The last two weeks there has been a spark to him and he has got things rolling.”
On slow starts in the game
“That isn’t something that we spend a lot of time on. Certainly we want to get things rolling faster than in the past two weeks, but it doesn’t matter at the half – it matters at the end of the ballgame.”
Jim Heacock, defensive coordinator and defensive line coach
On Iowa quarterback Drew Tate
“Drew is really good at running the ball. He has the ability to scramble, throw and is a good leader. He is probably one of the best quarterbacks we will face and the most experienced with a good cast surrounding him. He creates a lot of big plays, he’s a good runner as we saw, a duel threat and an outstanding quarterback.”
On Ohio State’s defensive system
“I credit the players and the secondary coaches. They do an outstanding job with preparations. The players play well and do what we ask them to. They work hard in the offseason and realize that we haven’t done anything yet. They know that we are not the defense we need to be to get where we want at the end of the year.”
On Malcolm Jenkins
“He gives us leadership and confidence back there. He makes plays and plays with a lot of confidence. He is coming along and really playing well this season.”
On Ohio State
“This is a different team than last year. We are getting the feel of what works and what doesn’t work with this group. We have a comfortable front four and continue to make progress and play better each week.”
