| Ohio State quarterback Troy Smith led the Buckeyes to a 34-20 victory over Notre Dame in the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl and outshined Irish quarterback Brady Quinn to emerge as a candidate for the 2006 Heisman Trophy. Smith threw for a career-high 342 yards and a pair of touchdowns and added another 66 yards rushing to be named the offensive MVP of the Fiesta Bowl. Smith, who finished 2005 with 2,893 yards of total offense and accounted for 27 touchdowns, was named the preseason Big Ten Offensive Player of the Year last month. |
