Head Coach Jim Tressel
On practice this week
“Roy Hall looked very good. I was really pleased with the way he has practiced this week. Give him another 48 hours and I think he will be able to give us some time on Saturday.”
On Roy Hall
“Roy won’t be our number 3 guy but he will be our number 4 or 5. He gives us a chance to rotate and he adds depth. It wouldn’t be fair to him to throw him out there for 40 plays, but I hope to get him out there for 12 to 15.”
On focus and mood of the team
I feel good about our focus. Tuesday’s practice was upbeat, we had a good practice on Wednesday, and we moved around well today. Our guys know from watching film that we weren’t perfect on Saturday, but they want to get better. We have been very physical this week and that is usually a good sign.”
On Troy Smith being the best quarterback he has ever coached
“Troy has had two excellent games. Troy knows the reality of being a quarterback is that you are only as good as your next game. He has spent a lot of time with Craig (Krenzel) this week watching films and he has a real hunger to learn everything he can.”
On the running game
“Our running game has to get better; we have not yet met our goals. For our team to getter better our running game has to improve. That doesn’t mean every time we line up we will run no matter what the defense shows us, but to become a better team we will have to improve our running game.”
On time rule change
“With any change you have to give it time. You have to study it. I am not sure if I agree with it or not but I will be interested to review data on the changes it has made to the overall game.”
On throwing more than running
“I am always a guy who is more than happy to throw the ball as long as we are throwing well and not throwing to the other team. That all starts with protection. Coach Dantonio will do everything he can to get the ball if we are throwing it and that is where our protection will come in.”
On rotating players
“I would definitely like to be able to continue rotating players. Our rotation won’t be for the same reasons as on Saturday. We wanted to be able to rotate because it was supposed to be 95 degrees at kick-off and we wanted to be a strong second half team. However, as long as we have the ability, it will serve us well as a team to continue rotating.”
On bringing in out-of-state talents such as Laurinaitis
“We want to bring in the best kids we can. Kids who are the best in their position and who are good kids.”
