COLUMBUS, Ohio – A trio of Ohio State women’s soccer student-athletes were named to Soccer Buzz Magazine All-Regional teams Tuesday. Midfielder Lara Dickenmann earned first-team honors and defender Melissa Miller garnered second-team laurels. Goalkeeper Lauren Robertson was named to the All-Freshman squad.
The Soccer Buzz regional award is the fourth for Dickenmann (Jr., Kriens Switzerland/DFC Sursee) and her second first-team accolade in her OSU career. In 2006, Dickenmann also collected her third All-Big Ten honor, including her second first-team laurel, and earned her second all-tournament team award following Big Ten tournament play. She concluded her junior campaign tied for the team lead in points with 23 on seven goals (second on the squad) and a team-best nine assists in 19 starts. Dickenmann’s numbers also rank in the Top 3 in the final 2006 Big Ten Conference statistics. During the season, the Buckeyes won 17 of 19 matches when Dickenmann scored at least one point. She was named the Big Ten Conference Offensive Player of the Week and was named to Soccer Buzz Magazine’s Elite Team of the Week for the week of Oct. 9 after tallying a six-point weekend to help OSU go 2-0 during that span against Iowa and then-No. 10 Illinois.
A senior tri-captain in 2006, Miller (Cincinnati, Ohio/Kolping) finished her Buckeye career with four all-regional honors from Soccer Buzz. A two-time All-American and four-time All-Big Ten honoree, Miller started all 19 matches in 2006, bringing her consecutive start streak to 84 games. Her 84 starts is second all-time in the OSU record books. After earning second team all-conference for three consecutive years, Miller was named to the All-Big Ten first team in 2006. She recorded four assists during the regular season, including three-consecutive assists vs. Wisconsin, Northwestern and Iowa. Miller also anchored a Buckeye defense that posted six shutouts during the regular season against Kent State, Xavier, No. 15 California, Iowa, No. 10 Illinois and Michigan State.
Robertson (Mission Viejo, Calif./So Cal Blues) captured All-Freshman honors after earning the start at goalkeeper in 17 of 18 matches. Logging 1512:20 minutes in the net, Robertson recorded five shutouts, including consecutive shutouts in the opening weekend of the season vs. Kent State (0-0) and Xavier (2-0). It was the first time a Buckeye had accomplished the feat since OSU career shutouts leader Amber Barnes in 1998. For her efforts during opening weekend, Robertson was named the league’s Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week for the week of Aug. 28.
