COLUMBUS, Ohio – Susan S. Peal has been named assistant athletics director for compliance at Ohio State effective Oct. 31, Gene Smith, Ohio State Director of Athletics, announced Thursday.
Peal comes to Ohio State from the NCAA where she has been the associate director of membership services since 1999. While there, she was responsible for assisting the membership of the NCAA and other constituencies in understanding NCAA legislation. She also served as the staff liaison to the Division III Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, Membership Committee and Management Council Subcommittees. Other responsibilities included acting as the staff contact for Division I Athletics Certification, as well as the Peer-Development and Peer Selection subcommittees.
“The Ohio State compliance program has been under great leadership, with a strong commitment to excellence,” Peal said. “After almost eight years at the NCAA, I want to bring my experience and understanding of the rules back to campus and be an advocate for the university.”
Prior to joining the NCAA, Peal served as the associate athletic director for compliance at Charleston Southern University. She also was the women’s assistant basketball coach before moving to the compliance office. Peal, who has a masters of science degree from Winthrop University, also has taught health education at both the university and middle school levels.
“I am excited to be part of a university known for its academic and athletics excellence,” Peal said. “I look forward to getting back on campus and the new challenges ahead. It is a great time to be a Buckeye.”
Peal replaces Kris Richardson, who accepted a position with the NCAA.
