Postgame Quotes
John Markell, Ohio State head coach
On Minnesota
“They made us play tonight. I feel this is the best team I’ve seen from Minnesota and one of the best teams I have coached against. They are a very, very good team.”
On Ohio State’s performance
“We kept coming back. I liked how our guys played and I think we found more out of our game than we did last night. I think we started to skate with them. We took steps tonight and I liked how we responded.”
On the changes Ohio State made in the game
“We didn’t have as many odd-man rushes, but we still need to get better on chipping the puck. We did a better job on coming through the neutral zone with speed and now we just need to practice with that speed Monday. I think the guys grew from this weekend.”
Matt McIlvane, Ohio State junior center
On the lessons learned from the weekend series against Minnesota
“We need to take out the positives, that is the bottom line. We need to stay out of the penalty box.
On Ohio State’s changes in the game
“Our big thing is we can’t give up on the odd man rush. We had a few more guys in the back. I don’t know if we will do this with everybody, it was just something special with them.”
On the series “When you lose two in a row you are never happy, but you can’t dwell on it and carry it to the next weekend. We need to find what we did well and change what we didn’t do well. That is what we need to carry into the next weekends.”
Don Lucia, Minnesota head coach
On the series against Ohio State
“I said going into the game I wanted our older guys to have a good game and they did. Ohio State is a physical opponent, but we were able to make them play with our power play. Tonight was a tough game.”
On Minnesota’s goalies
“I don’t have an issue balancing play between two goalies. If I have two good goalies, I’ll play both. I see Jeff (Frazee) taking his game to another level because I think he’s matured. He dealt with some off-the-ice issues last year and he’s in better shape now.”
Ben Gordon, Minnesota junior forward
On the game against Ohio State
“The second night will always be a totally different game. We knew we had to do the things we did the night before to win again because Ohio State was going to come out hard.”
Mike Vannelli, senior defenseman
On Ohio State’s play
“They played hard right from the beginning and were more physical. We all made it a point to go out and not let up after the win last night. We knew we had to come out and match Ohio State’s intensity.”
