COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State women’s hockey defenseman Tessa Bonhomme was named to the Canadian National Women’s Team roster for the Four Nations Cup, Hockey Canada announced. It is the second time Bonhomme has been named to the Canadian Four Nations roster, as she competed in the 2004 Four Nations Cup. The 2006 Four Nations Cup will take place Nov. 7-12 in Kitchener, Ontario. The tournament involves the women’s national teams from the United States, Canada, Sweden and Finland.
Bonhomme, a junior from Sudbury, Ontario, was selected to the Four Nations team by Melody Davidson, head coach and general manager of Canada’s National Women’s Team. It is the first of three national women’s rosters for the 2006-07 season, along with the Evaluation Camp roster to be announced in December and the IIHF World Women’s Championship roster in March.
Bonhomme is a three-time member of the Canadian Under-22 team. She most recently was named to the 2006-07 team in August and will compete with the team in January at the 2007 European Air Canada Cup in Germany.
Of the 21 players named to the team, Bonhomme is one of five current college players selected and the only player from a Western Collegiate Hockey Association team. The roster includes 15 members of the 2006 Olympic gold medal-winning team.
Bonhomme redshirted the 2005-06 season because of her participation with the Canadian Centralization Program in preparation for the 2006 Winter Olympic Games. She took part in the program from August to December of 2005 when she was one of the last two players to miss the final cut.
After rejoining the Ohio State women’s hockey team this year, Bonhomme opened the season with a career-high four points against Northeastern Oct. 6. She is tied for the team lead with eight points through four games.
