Women’s Volleyball Main and Stevens at USA Women’s National Team tryout this weekend – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State women’s volleyball student-athletes Marisa Main (Jr., Louisville, Ky.) and Ami Stevens (So., Centerburg, Ohio) are taking part in the three-day open tryout for the 2006 USA Women’s National Team and associated training programs this weekend at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo.
All of the 68 athletes in attendance will be trying to impress second-year Team USA head coach “Jenny” Lang Ping and her team of evaluators. Throughout the tryout process, USA Volleyball will be identifying prospective athletes to compete for the United States in the 2006 World Championship.
Main is a two-time American Volleyball Coaches All-American and a two-time All-Big Ten selection. She averaged 12.43 assists per game last season and hit .363. Main averaged 2.34 digs, 1.96 kills and .63 blocks per game in 2005.
Stevens, a member of the US Junior National Team in 2004 and 2005, averaged a team-high 2.84 digs per game last season for the Buckeyes. She averaged 3.52 kills and .45 blocks per game while hitting .239.
Ohio State was 22-9 overall last season and was 14-6 in the Big Ten Conference, finishing tied for third. The Buckeyes reached the second round of the NCAA Championship and finished ranked 23rd by the AVCA.
