Ohio State Athletic Training Students Earn Great Lakes Regional Title – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State University Athletic Training Quiz Bowl team won the 2005 Great Lakes Athletic Trainers’ Association (GLATA) Quiz Bowl competition March 17 that was held in conjunction with the GLATA Annual Meeting and Symposium in Toledo, Ohio. The award marks the first title for the Buckeyes.
The team members included juniors Jason Hageman, Stephanie Cepac and Amanda McDaniel and seniors Michelle Jenkin and Amanda Makii.
The quiz bowl, designed in a Jeopardy-style format, is an annual intercollegiate academic competition covering athletic training and related sports medicine subjects. The GLATA Quiz Bowl is a regional competition between the winners of each state Quiz Bowl within the region: Ohio, Indiana, Michigan, Illinois, Wisconsin and Minnesota.
In Ohio Stadium on Jan. 15, the Ohio State team beat eight other undergraduate athletic training programs from across the state of Ohio to be crowned the 2005 Ohio Athletic Trainers’ Association Quiz Bowl Champions. It marked the second year Ohio State has earned the title and the first time since 2000.
The Ohio State team, advised by Brenda Klein, assistant athletic trainer/athletic training instructor, won its first-round match against the state quiz-bowl champions from Michigan (Michigan State University) and Illinois (Lewis University). The Buckeyes went on to win a close final round match over Bethel University (Minnesota) and Lewis.
